Default Tj's 95 SC300 1jz Swap

Time for me to start a build thread. I just picked up them Gem from a CL member today. Very clean car and well maintained. 95 5sp with 118k. I use to have a turbo IS but that ended up getting totaled 2 weeks ago Still deciding on which direction i want to go with the SC either 1j or 2j swap. Most likely i will be starting it over the winter time so for now i will be enjoy the sc as is. I plan on swapping the wheels from the IS to the SC for the time. Below you will see a few pics of how my IS sat and was and then my new gem. Enjoy.

went from this

engine bay. It pretty much stayed the same since 09 besides rebuilding the bottom end lol.

Heres my new gem

I notice you only have 118K on that engine. I would NA-T and I think its cost effective.

Reason why I went 2JZGTE is because I had 235K on mine. I believe I can still NA-T that thing but I want a fresh motor.

True. I had that done to my IS. Thinking i may just go NA-T again since it was a good set up and less hassle. My set up on my is was the following

Turbonectics Turbo 60-1 .58a/r
Turbonectics Manifold
Turbonectics 35mm Wastegate
550cc Rc Injectors Low Impedance
GTE Internals
GTE Headgasket
Arp Headstuds
Walboro fuel pump 255
Aem FIC

Let the fun begin. I say just turbo your current setup, if the numbers come back good. Just do the head gasket and the studs, like mentioned before.

Welcom to the Club my friend I can't wait till we get together!!

Either setup will work , do What you want /like etc...You are going the one driving the car, You are going to be the one that will be popping that hood ..

I got both setups and they are both money pits lol, I have more $$$$ in my na-t than my gte.

Pull the valve cover of that engine and look at the condition of the valve train, i boosted my SC at 160k miles now it has 170k on it.

You have to look at both setups to see the pros and cons and $$$ to mod each setup.

Whatever you decide to do, gte or na-t am IN!

Thanks Omar. Yea ive been doing alot of research on 1jz and 2jz. Like i mentioned not looking for alot a hp and this will be my daily. Shooting for around the 350-400hp range. This is what i was thinking.

1jz swap

motor, ecu, harness - 900-1000
fmic- 200
Tial bov- 200

NA-T

turbo- 400
mani- 150
injectors- 300
ems - 1000
fmic- 100
Tial bov- 250
Tial Wg- 250
misc- 300

Im not really on a budget because i will be taking my time with the build and will be buying parts over the winter time. But im thinking i could just go with the 1j swap and rock the twins until they blow then upgrade. Also those prices i just did an estimate. Im pretty sure i can find some of those parts used as well. Also whats a good year and car to get the 1j from. I heard that the vvti ones are the ones you want to stay away from is that correct?

That is correct. At the same time a matter of opinion. Thats up to you. I say the non vvti cause you can add cams and what not. The vvti has more power in stock form but the wiring is a bit more tedious. Just do the research and it will help you decide on which route you need to go and for your budget. If you decide on the 1jz it will be the cheapest and parts are still available today if needed. Good luck man.

Thanks. like i said i plan on doing this over the winter time so i have plenty of time to figure out what i want to do and which route. i have a decent amount of money saved up right now and also money left over from insurance so im set lol. So many decisions though haha. Ill just start buying universal parts now like bov,wg, fmic now since i can use that for any of the setups i go with.

Then buy a 2jzgte and get an R154 do it once and be done with, Or 1jzgte with r154 .

There is nothing wrong with the vvti, people don't like to mess with it because it's not PNP makes decent power since it comes single Turbo from factory.

To make 350-400 on stock twins and reliable , you will more than likely have to go 2jzgte.

I would go single straight up , and do it while the engine is out ..
