Default Roof Rack on the F

Anybody have pics of the F with roof racks?
I miss taking out my board to the beach. Anybody found another way to get a board on the F w/o roof racks?

Ask this guy about his Yakima roof rack! (Not an F, but you get the picture)

heyarms: Dude that pic looks like it was taken in the 80's lol
Did you jump in the "Hottub Time Machine"?

Both look ok. I guess I was wishing it looked better on the car. The second pic is def for a board.

Wow it actually doesn't look bad at all. Thanks for the quick reply

Can you please gimme details on this rack?
Brand? Your opinions on it? Wind noise? Loss of mpg? Do you leave it on all the time? Does it marr up the roof? Does it mess up the weather stripping?

I miss playing out doors

The rack is a genuine Lexus one but I think manufactured by Thule.

The rack is held down by the steel clamps going in between the door frame and rubber seal. I have notice on the drivers side that the rubber has fretted a bit but I am like I can always by a new rubber door seal. The other area of potential concern is the paint on the roof. I normally leave the rack on most of the time but if I take off, I take particular car in cleaning the rubber feet and roof before refitting.

I have heard some people have put 3M protection on the roof where the rubber feet sit.

At the end of the day I need to get the bikes to the bush and the GFs mini is not much good for this. Brought the F knowing this would have to happen and hence the racks came with the car from new (FOC thanks to the dealer).

Wind noise is quite good, you get a whistle at 80 km/hr which goes at about 90 km/h and you just get a bit more wind noise after this. Have done many 3 hour drives and the noise does not bother me.

Fuel Economy, it basically adds about 1 - 2 litres per 100 km on the freeway, so 10 - 20% increase in fuel usage.

To sum up, I am happy with the results and like not having the bikes inside the car with dirt and ****.

Default Thule Rapid Aero

I've got the rapid aeros from Thule. They work great and I haven't had anny paint issues. Only issue was a roof dent from forgetting to take the bike off entering my garage. The rack is solid.

Thx for the pics guys
Does adding that front angled deflector make a difference in mpg/wind noise?

I don't have it but to be honest I am completely happy with the wind noise or lack of.

If you open the shade on the sunroof (sunroof closed) you can hear a lot more wind noise but with this shut the increase in noise level is very acceptable and that is with 2 mtb bikes on the rack.

I've used mine for all kinds of stuff. Everything from boxes to bikes to luggage. I haven't taken a ton of pictures though. It's pretty quiet. The wind drag is actually fairly minimal. I did notice a 3-4 mpg drop. I also used clear bra material to protect the paint.
