Default It's Bimmer Disney World: BMW Welt Opens to the Public

The BMW Welt facility encompasses performance and exhibition space, new-vehicle delivery, plant tours and everything else from restaurants to educational exhibits.

The Double Cone is the landmark part of BMW Welt, with its self-supporting spiral staircase inside that has 60 monitors built in to give visitors a panoramic and all-inclusive view.

MUNICH, Germany — BMW has been planning it for years, and this weekend its BMW Welt (World) "event and delivery center" is officially open. Visitors get to see technology and design studios, dine in the BMW restaurants, shop in the BMW shop — and, if they wish, take dramatic delivery of a new BMW here.

Experts from BMW will be on hand during the opening weekend to answer questions. The setup of BMW Welt encompasses plant tours, a museum and a spacious layout intended for exhibitions and events as well as music concerts, making this, in the words of one European Web site, the second great Munich attraction after Oktoberfest.

BMW Welt's modern, sweeping architecture is notable for its two-story Double Cone facility that BMW calls "a media dome consisting of light and sound" meant for special exhibitions on "various BMW themes." A set of self-supporting spiral stairs inside, equipped with 60 monitors, is the place for visitors to stand to get a panoramic view. At the top of the stairs, the new facility connects with the BMW Museum, although a temporary exhibit takes the place of access to the museum for now. There's a BMW Individual area, a motorcycle section, kids' educational activities, engineering exhibits — and the Premium Lounge where you can wait while your own BMW is prepped for delivery.

Full details are available at the BMW Welt Web site.

What this means to you: Fall in Munich is about more than beer, and BMW has just given you another reason to visit this historic city.

We got to see it near completion last year, I was bummed it wasn't open yet. The facility looked incredible. The Delivery Center they had was already pretty amazing; and the factory tour was really cool (you get to walk under the line). Makes me want to go back to Munich.
