Default power tilt went south--stays in up position '00 LS

I have a '00 LS and this morning, noticed the power tilt is not working. I have the pre redesigned ls and the tsib have not been applied. What are my options? Is it an easy fix? Thanx..

is it copletely dead or does it make a grinding type of noise when you try to lower it?

if it's dead then it may be the motor or the switch

if it's grinding then it's the gears, relatively easy fix, search for school bus mod

edit: here it is https://www.clublexus.com/forums/performance-and-maintenance/49783-tilt-steering-repair.html

edit: nm, i see you posted there already

but just open it up and take a look-see

I think PureDrifter will confirm this, but the fix is the same. Go to home depot or Orchrad and get the garden hose washers.. thats what I used, they work excellent. Put one on both sides of the wheel. Power tilt works fine now.

when u press the tilt buttons is there a grinding noise of any sort, if there is its an easy fix, if there isnt be prepared for a slightly $$ intensive hunt as the motor itself is prolly gone

Here are is the first of the three TSIB's on tilt/telescope issues for the early 2000 LS400 -- the later 2000 LS400's like mine had the redesigned motors installed at the factory.

I took the car to various mechanics to check this problem out. Just to give you guys an idea of the incompetents and rip-offs out there, one mechanic said I need to replace the whole steering column for big $$buck$$. Another said the internal vertical motor is gone. A third said something about replacing wiring that will cost also big bucks. Finally the last guy jiggled with the up and down switch for awhile and that did the trick. He said apparently the contacts were the problem and now it works great! No charge. Boy, am I one happy camper!!

Default 2002 Ls430 tilt wheel stuck

Replaced tilt motor and worked great for two months, today opened car door and wheel was tilted all the way up and will not make a sound or move. Telescoping part works but car is hard to drive. I am wondering if it might untilt or move in some way while I am driving and cause accident. Anybody heard of this?

Is the car hot? My wheel won't tilt if it is hot inside. I'll have to let the AC run blast for 5-10 min then move it.

Any way to manually force the wheel into a more comfortable driving position and leave it?

If the motor still work a little like mine you could adjust it then unplug the motor so it wont move anymore.

IDENTIFY YOUR YEAR MODEL they are NOT all the same
90- 1997 are the same and simple to fix
1998 and up are super hard to work on and or repair

i found when i removed the gear, i could manually turn the shaft to tilt the wheel up or down, and thought about it, leaving it as is, but it's to nice to have the wheel get our of my legs way when i get in and out of the car. So i fixed mine, nuff said.
