That'll never happen. But I've thought Pontiac front-ends have looked like copycat BMWs for years now. Some old VWs tried copying too.. But I HAVE heard talks about GM buying Toyota and Honda merging with Ford...

What type of fluid do you use in your automatic transmission? Most of the BMW transmissions were filled with standard Dexron III fluid. Dexron is a registered trademark of General Motors Corporation and is a transmission fluid specification that is required for use in most 3-Series E36 BMW automatic transmissions. In fact, GM manufactured many transmissions for BMW (the 325is transmission featured in this article has a big 'GM' stamp on the side). There should be a side plate attached to the transmission that will indicate which type of fluid you should install. There also may be a sticker on the side of one of the bottom sumps. On my car I found neither, but since it was a GM transmission, I used the Dexron fluid which has worked quite well. Mixing and matching different types of transmission fluid can cause your transmission to fail.

I actually had a quote from General Motors to rebuild my tranny. I was concerned with it not holding rpm's when coasting down ( which turned out to be a fluid problem, but definately a "GM" gremlin) and BMw sent me to a local chevy dealership to have it inspected since they were full and could not take any more customers that day.

GM to buy BMW?
Hey, go for it. ..........GM can't possibly screw up BMW any more than Chris Bangle has already done....with his I-Drives and ugly styling. But yes, Toyota is too good a company for the GM bean counters. And the ultimate insult here is that Toyota actually SELLS a redone Chevy Cavalier ( a piece of junk, in my opinion) in Japan with the Toyota nameplate on it.
Here, domestically, the most obvious GM-Toyota connection is the Pontiac Vibe, which is actually a rebadged Toyota Matrix. ( a Corolla-based car)

OLT, GM owns a significant part of the Getrag Manual corporation, and GM also built transmissions for rolls royce at once point... but i still think the gm stamp on the side means getrag manual....

GM has been building automatic transmissions for BMW for decades.
