99 ls400 headliner removal

I would think it would be similar to the older ones where you need to remove all the plastic trim first. If it has the separate panel in front that will need to come out too. Some times there are screws to remove or things like the dome light assembly screws, but mostly all the plastic stuff snaps in and there are some snaps for the roof panel or head liner.

Headliner
I don't really need to re-do my headliner. It's more of a customizing project for me. It's not giving me problems at all. I work around exotics and I just like the look of it. I don't this I will ever sell this car so I wanted it to be all that I want it to be. Thanks for the replys

Again all the plastic moldings around the windows will come off, then likely there are some screws under them around the edges, and there will be the plastic retainer ***** that will be strategically placed on the backing of the head liner that engage with the brackets attached to the roof or are part of the roof panel, so once all the screws if any are removed its a slowly pull apart type deal. Its best if a hand and fingers can be behind the backing to better distribute the force, like in removing the trunk lid panel, the holders for the retainers are glued on and can be pulled off in some cases. The picture on the left is the trunk panel retainer, and the one on the right is the head liner retainer. The wire that's in the way is the phone antenna wire, the head liner was pulled down like this when I got the car I didn't try
to put it back up because at one time I was going to take it out. To clean the moon roof water tray. Its a huge undertaking the seats may need to come out or at least tipped way back, because the headliner has to come out one of the doors. You don't want to bend or fold it.

I've taken my sunroof completely out to change it. It is a big job. To remove the headliner you have to remove the vanity lights, the things that you hold that's next to them ( I forget what they are called) . Then you remove the plastic pieces. They just pop out. You have to remove the sun visors and the dome lights with the sun roof controls. You then have to remove the the plastic trim that hide the sunroof glass nuts. There are 4 of them. They also pop off. Then you pull the front piece back that the visors were in. Be very gentle. It just hooks into there. From that point you slide the headliner forward to remove it. You will need to lay your seats down flat like dicer said. I know I make it sound simple but it's a small job. I'm at work but I have a pdf somewhere.

For automotive fiber optics, light engines and panels for automotive use, check out:
I believe Rolls Royce uses a fiber-optic bundle that is plugged into a light engine. The indiviual flexible fibre strands routed to create the headliner starlight effect.
It would make sense to use this approach, otherwise conduit would be necessary for indindividual bulbs.
The Lumitex approach is also an inert light that can be color filtered...no heat

was thinking about helping my friend do this on his 99.
Sunroof doesn't open anymore and drains are definitely clogged to where water starts dripping everywhere in the interior.
Just want to replace the faulty sunroof motor, so I can then open the sunroof and unclog the drains!

I took the liner off my 97 the other day because I have having leaking issues from the windshield. It was only the sun visors and dome light keeping it up there, once you remove them the liner will come off easily.
