SC430 "de-spoilered"?
Hi,
I'm newly registered,, but have been lurking for some time. I just debadged my silver SC430 and really like the look.
Now I'm curious as to what it would look like without the "optional" spoiler. Does anyone a a photo of a sc430 without a spoiler or have one with out one?
Thanks,
Dave:confused

LOL
find someone who doesn't have runflats and they probably don't have the spoiler either... I think ONLY the very first few didn't have the spoiler or runflats.... they didn't have navi either....

Last year while I was waiting for my silver SC, the sales rep told me about 60 cars came in that did not have all three options. If you take a look at the brochure, you'll get an idea of what the car looks like without that butt-ugly thing sticking out of that very handsome car.
If you decide to have it removed, please let us (well, maybe I'm the only one who cares) know what it entails.
Here's a pic I snatched from the web site last year.

oh please...
HOw can it look different without the run flats? Unless you mean the trunk looks different with the spare in there.....
BTW: I like the car WITH or WITHOUT the spoiler myself... I wanted to order the car without the spoiler and without the run flats but no such luck... so I got all options.... The only one I wish I didn't have is the runflats... me and lots of other folks out there...

Just a little update.
I still think the car would look better without the spoiler. I've looked at pictures and really like the more "retro" lines.
I talked to a Lexus service guy today who said that they punch holes in the lid to mount the spoiler and he recommended against removing it. Hmmmm.
Does anyone know how much a trunk lid for a SC430 would cost?

Just my opinion, but I think it looks much better with the spoiler than without. If the car didn't come with a spoiler, I'd bet that many people would be trying to get a spoiler kit, just because it is different from the standard.

I prefer the car without the spoiler because I think it ... ahem ... spoils the lines of the car.
I wonder why the "Lexus service guy" thinks it would be such a big deal about filling in a few holes? Could there be fifty of them? or maybe three gigantic ones? I realize that the entire trunk lid would probably have to be repainted, but it's gotta be cheaper than buying a new lid and having it installed. There's also an iron-clad guarantee that the trunk lid will never ever again work or fit properly if replaced.
My dealer is not aware of anyone who has had the spolier removed, but there are two other dealers within 80 miles that I plan to call and ask. I really want to get the skinny on this.

IMHO. I think the spoiler gives the car a sportier look. It enhances the lines and curves on the rear deck without sacrificing it's beauty.
It is also suppose to serve a purpose:
reducing drag from 0.31 to 0.30

Another update regarding the de-spoilering of my SC430.
I put a big scratch in my car and took it to the body shop. They are hideously expensive but do great work.
Anyway, I dropped it off with the idea that they would pull it off and and they would fill the two little holes that we thought would hold it on.
The next day the guy call and says after they took it off, there were 6 or 7 BIG holes that held white platic clips that inturn hold the spoiler.
The guy said they'd have to weld a plate behind the holes and then fill them all in. He said all said and done it would cost 600-700$
As much as I want this thing off, I'm no rap star and decided to hang on to the ugly piece of plastic for a while longer. Anybody else done this?

2003sc430 ....
I can infer from your post that you didn't see those holes yourself, but took the word of the bodyshop.
A month or so ago, after calling a few Lexus service locations to find out what the spolier removal would entail (with no success), I finally contacted a service manager in Florida who told me there were two holes in the trunk to secure that hideous appendage.
The only way both could be correct is if Lexus changed their method of attaching it. Sure would be nice to know the truth.

You are correct. I didn't see the holes myself. Maybe the guy was trying to screw me, maybe there really were a bunch of big holes there. I had already committed to spending 400$ but 700$ seemed excessive.
Did I mention that I really don't like the spoiler and think it would look far better sticking out of a RubberMaid trash can?
Maybe one day....
