I too live in California and find your mileages...

I too live in California and find your mileages way out on the positive side. The EPA only rated these guys for 25 to 27 miles per gallon and the best I have ever achieved was 25.5 with California...

Lots of different places to look...Could be exhaust system, or Gas tank plastic cover...(I just found mine was cover hitting underbody/tank) I added foam to those points and noise gone.

I would add just a little bit and make the fluid level with cold mark while in Park....Just don't overfill....If you are nervous about it add to a point a little above the cold mark....

One tip is you do not have to remove the air conditioning condenser radiator...Also the funny button tab on the front of the hood lock is removeable allowing the hood lock support bar to be moved...

Something else the electric cooling pump on the hybrid side failed on my RX at around 100k miles...I plan to replace it every 100k...part is cheap and easy to replace.

Yes full synthetic is better. I like the idea of bad cat, but would expect codes with performance issues. The synthetic I proposed is a true class 4 synthetic.

stick with OE denso or NGK iridium and you will have the best plug available on the market...Spark is optimal because of the very pointed electrode on the iridium plugs....

Check the power steering pump for the noise. That noise is not normal.....The other thing you could do temporarily is remove power steering pump belt and see if sound goes away.
