It is fitted because it replaces your OEM...

It is fitted because it replaces your OEM courtesy lights, where the factory location is.

There's kits where you drill a hole also, but I highly recommend against it unless you have extra paint...

I wouldn't go for 3rd party extended warranties. From seeing personal family members buy from the bank, from the dealer (MB & BMW, only a select few in my fam drive Lexus), they've all been bad news....

There is, sometimes the bulb doesn't seat properly and you lock it anyway, usually user fault. I've done it before, even Lexus techs have done it wrong too.
