The ICE will not shut off over 41mph. However, you can still P&G above 41, it just won't be as efficient since the ICE will be idling instead of shut down.

If the HSD completely malfunctions, I could see where the entire drive system could shutdown since the HSD controls everything. As far as the limp mode, when I ran out of gas last year, I was able to...

Are you putting it in neutral for your glides? If not, you aren't getting the effects of P&G. Your glide will be twice as long in neutral, but make sure you wait for approx 1 second after letting...

I use most of the hypermiling techniques every day. I P&G nearly 100% of the time I am driving (I don't if I'm ascending a steep hill, I use DWL in that case). Some of the the techniques I use are:...

Hey Airman,
Your driving style definitely impacts your battery level. Read on:
1. Not sure if you are aware but the 1st 50 seconds (approximately) of your warm-up cycle uses basically only battery...

Here's what happens to the ScanGauge when the ICE cuts off:
1. RPMs drop to zero
2. GPH drops to .03 (because of a quirk in the SGII, it doesn't go all the way to zero, but no fuel is actually...

The issue is if you let the a/c deplete the battery, your ICE has to work harder (read-use more fuel) to recharge the battery.

The battery discharge thing scares me. I remember when I first started hypermiling, I'd always run the battery down to 2-4 bars at the end of my cummute. I was unaware at that time that it took the...

You probably do not completely fill up the tank either, unless you top-off. That would account for some of the shortfall. If I were a betting man though, I'd bet it has even more than an 11.9 gallon...

Yes, using a/c will really decrease your mileage. The ICE will run much more often. I thought I read somewhere that while the a/c compressor is on, the ICE will run continuously, but I'm not entirely...

I don't drive freeways, I take only city streets, usually with PSL's of 25-35. Freeway speeds don't agree with the HS. The 1000 mile tank was my normal driving/commuting over a 5 week period.

New record: 1077.2 mile tank!

Just thought I'd share how well our HS can do if hypermiled. :woot:

Thanks in large part to the warm, dry weather we've had, I was able to get 1077.2 miles on my last tank. The HS really likes it...

The biggest difference maker in your case would be to slow down. Going 74mph will kill your mpg's. Also, practice coasting more (and earlier) up to stop signs and traffic lights, you don't ever want...

I try not to be, when I route-plan, I always select streets that are at least 2 lanes to give others an option to pass if they wish. If traffic is heavier, I will increase my speed to accomodate. I...

Dave,
Sorry, forgot one very important thing re P&G. When you start your glide, also shift to neutral as soon as the ICE shuts down, and you will get a much much longer coast.
