I've got a 2000 GS300 with 180k+ miles on it with less wear and tear on the seats than that car. Unless somebody has been sleeping in the driver's seat, something is not right about this car.

I would change the tranny fluid, diff fluid, etc since it has been nearly 80k miles and 6 years since they were last changed. Otherwise, it sounds like a keeper! Good luck and welcome to the club!

Any of the chain auto parts stores will read them for free e.g. AutoZone, O'reillys, Advance, etc. Or, you can buy a reader and do it yourself. I paid about $30 for mine. It'll come in handy.

I assume you reset the codes. Some codes will not disappear on their own. If not, have the codes cleared and see if they come back. Also, that bare spot on the wire could very well cause it to short.

When was the last time the plugs and wires were changed. Could be either of these. Also, if your valve cover gaskets are leaking, the oil can collect in the plug valley and cause the plugs to miss....
