If you want to really do the tranny fluid change, it'll take something like 8qts and a flush machine. I know on the 4Runner I have, I can disconnect one of the transmission lines at the radiator, run...

So I'm back to retiring my dead '90 LS400. I want to keep the rims from it to mount snow tires for the "new" '92 LS400. What other cars share the same wheel size that I can get a set of steel wheels...

Is the lock plunger next to the trunk release pushed in? If it is, that won't let you open the truck. If it's out, have someone push down on the trunk as you pull the button/lever and see if it opens...

Fix the stuff instead of dumping crap in the oil. When things leak, it's for a reason. Hopefully the leak won't come back at a bad time.

If you can, I'd mount each rim (sans tire) on a car and spin it by hand to make sure they aren't bent and the bead seal surface isn't screwed up.

I too would like to know what the most common repairs are on these cars to help fuel mileage.

The 1992 LS400 we just picked up has 228K miles on it and doesn't feel anywhere near as powerful as...

Disable OEM theft deterrent system?

Can I disable the onboard OEM theft deterrent system by just removing the ECU for that system? The high mileage LS400 that I'm fixing back up (after a deer strike) has always had an iffy anti-theft...

Climate control cheapo LCD replacement?

I previously used one of the $160 LCD modules from lextreme. While surfing ebay looking at random LS400 parts, I saw a number of LCD replacement modules popping up for $45. Are they garbage compared...

I'm going to check out the lock ECU tomorrow and have a look at the ROM as well as the antenna lead. I'm wondering if it could be extended to make it better at receiving a signal.

From what I've read via google, it sounds like the keyless entry was never terribly reliable on the early gen LS400's. Is that what you guys have found as well?

Partial keyless entry fix

The "new" '92 LS400 we picked up had a non-functioning keyless entry system. I checked the usual DOME fuse but it was fine. After pulling the key fob apart, I found a cold solder joint on what I...

I may have confused the 1992 models with the 1993 models that had a ton of updates. I noticed another post that said Toyota doesn't generally include wiring for things that weren't installed....

1st gen series I and II compatibilities

So we picked up a clean 1992 LS400 to replace our 1990 LS400 that lunched a deer on the highway.

There was no build sheet for the 1992, but it doesn't appear to have the seat memory controls,...

Hopefully I won't get banned for saying this, but I think this particular car may be resurrected as a Lemons racer. It would be a viking funeral, of sorts. Curious how long a 1UFZ engine with 407,000...

And I bid the trusty old LS400 goodby

More specifically, a stupid deer did it for my wife. We just rolled 407,000 miles on the odo and the car was still going strong. I planned on keeping it alive until 500,000 miles just to say I did.
