It works fine for BMW. I have one. The oil got changed about every 13,000 miles, when the computer told me to. Synthetic oil isn't going to get "gunky" in 10,000 miles.

Every 10,000, for me.

You see that sometimes, in very "cammy" engines. Obviously designed for best torque at high RPM's, in this case, but having jack-squat off the line is not good in a car with a slushbox tranny.

Of course you can't believe it, because it's not so. Obviously. The ONLY time that comes-on with ANY significant regularity, is in snow driving.

The characteristic of having a large rise in torque at high RPM's is not endemic to normally aspirated engines. It's a result of designing the engine to get a lot of peak HP, using camshaft profiles,...

But IS350's engine is weak in the lower RPM's where you spend the vast majority of your time. It REALLY COULD use more torque down low. Especially annoying is that it actually dips in the...

Not all "all seasons" are equal. The IS all-seasons lean toward the sporty. They are hideous in any kind of snow.

That's hard to believe. I have a BMW with the 2.5, and it's an impeccable engine, although no powerhouse.

Exactly. I can't believe the emotions, over a face-lift.

I would call it a very STUPID decision, to only support one set. I can't believe they saved anything worth mentioning, and now people have to jump through these hoops.

What's crazy is that everyone seems to have money for the F-sport package, but not for the bigger motor. Call me a happy but perplexed owner of a 2014 IS350 RWD non-F.

It's a good motor. However I would gladly trade some peak HP for better grunt in the lower mid-range, where it would be used far more often in normal driving.

I would not condemn the Germans in general for VW's ****-up. They just didn't do it right (doing it right means urea injection).

I would consider your WRX more of an "old school" turbo, designed mostly for big power from a small motor. Contrast that with most modern turbos, which are largely designed for fuel economy and...

I do not agree with your analysis. Modern turbo cars *always* strive to get the boost going as low-down in the RPM range as possible. This allows them to operate at low RPM's, which gives best...
