I've found that 15mm allows most rims to clear...

I've found that 15mm allows most rims to clear the LS brakes. The wheels will can still fit with a 15mm spacer, but since your car isn't that low there isn't enough natural camber and it'll poke out...

That was how it was explained to me by a lock smith when I first got my car, but that was 8 or 9 years ago. Maybe I misunderstood him or I'm just remembering wrong.

It's most likely a short somewhere in the wiring. Start with the connectors and trace the wires to see if there is any place where the wires were rubbing and look for cuts in the insulation.
