Then you've probably got something collecting on your exhaust as the car sits. Whatever it is burns when the exhaust heats up and you get a puff of smoke.

Seems he would notice a brake pull during the event. Possible coolant hitting the exhaust. Is your reservoir overfilled? It expands as the car gets hot and could be spraying into the engine bay.

Seems to me that the thing to do is get a volt meter and a wiring diagram and follow the circuit back toward the battery and find out where the voltage drops out.

You're not getting fuel to the cylinders. First suspect: fuel pump. I'd start by checking the fuse to the pump and go from there.

That's a reasonable price. I'm guessing it needs a timing belt, so I would use that to knock it down as close to $5 grand as I could.
