Default 2004 SC430 Fof Light Upgrade

Good afternoon everyone,

I have a fog light that just went out and before I replace the standard bulb I wanted to check and see if anyone has upgraded their fog light bulbs and if so with what product. These seem to provide marginal improvement when on but I wanted to see what options might be out there before I take it apart.

Thank you,

What is your want from the new lights? Whiter, see better at night, see in the fog or snow?

Yes, I would like a brighter light but I'm also looking for a bulb that will last longer then the standard bulb.

I would recommend a led with a projector lens. I like osram bulbs myself.

Does this require complete new lens kit? Did you do this to your SC430?

No it doesn't require any modification. It's not like an hid conversion. No different than clanging out a incandescent bulb in your house with a led bulb. The projector lens is built into the bulb. The reason I suggest that type is in focuses the light forwards better rather than a scattering of the light.

Default '2004 SC430 Fog Light Upgrade

Hi Coleroad,

I have been looking for the Osram led projector bulbs but have not been able to find them online. I went to Osram's site but they did not offer the bulb in LED to the best of my searching. I called a local truck accessory provider in my area to see if they could order them and they said they hadn't heard of them, probably because they sell Putco products and the cost would be $229.00 for the Putco 4000 lumen bulbs. If you have a contact or a web site to a supplier I would really appreciate sharing it.

Thank you,

Sorry, I can't find osram chipped H3 bulbs either. I did find some nice Phillips flip H3's . They are quality bulb too. I just recommended a quality bulb for something that is a safety thing. If it was an interior light, I would say the brand doesn't much matter. here is one that I found. You can look around, and maybe find a better deal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/H3-LED-Fog-L...NYXPj3&vxp=mtr

I wonder if you have tried to put these H3 bulbs in the SC430 fog light well. What I found was that the ones (such as this one) with the heat sink usually don't fit in the well with cap on and the ones that will fit inside usually do not have high enough lumins as halogen bulbs.
Fog lights get lots of water so the caps have to be on I imagine.

you are absolutely correct. I start mixing cars up in my head. To many cars , and I get mixing them up sometimes. Was thinking it was one that didn't have a cover, and the bulb sealed the light. I've done all my other cars since I had done the sc430. That was some time ago. Thanks for keeping me straight.

2004 SC430 Fog light bulbs upgrade

Hi Coleroad,

I came across this site that has the "Osram" bulbs. "H3 - OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER UNLIMITED 64151NBU-01B BULBS" but there were no reviews other then Osrams product details.

I have Osram Night Breaker D4S as my low beam bulb in my SC and can't be happier. It indeed lives up to its claim 70% brighter, 20% whiter and 20 meters further than regular D4S bulbs. I now see things 200 yards away like in daylight. Unlike a lot of no-name brand Osram's high output bulbs do not seems to consume more power as they are rated the same wattage.
The H3 version is a halogen bulb though. As such it will appear yellow no matter what. I happen to think that in a few years most auto lights will be LED/HID based. Since changing the fog light bulbs in SC is so expensive I am debating whether to do it in night breaker or LED.

....since you're really happy with the Night Breakers in your low beams, why not use them as a fog light also. It seems that they are putting out exceptional lighting for you & thats what you would really want in a fog light, since most leds won't project as far as a hid.....I think....lol...It would be even cooler, if you could get them in a yellow color, as most "original foglights" were intended

The SC fog light well has a cap. Converting it to hid requires leaving the cap open and thus risking water damage. My mechanic strongly advised me against such an idea. Even if I decide to do the conversion anyway I would have to put in an after market hid kit instead of using a bulb like Osram Nightbreaker D4S. The Nightbreaker halogen though is still better than OEM, but its much hotter in that little space and has shorter life too.
With a good low beam I dont feel like using fog light to supplement the light. The fog light is then just for show, an LED kind would be a lot modern looking.

From American Baauty:

Lester Burnham (Kevin SPacey): "I wanna look good naked"...

Tell me there's a light for that and I'll have it on my car by morning!
