Default Lexus Kickplate Bulb?

Hello All
Just replaced all the interior lights with LED's except for the "Lexus" kickplate bulbs...has anyone replaced these with LED's if so what are they? Only reason that I didn't is that I didn't want to go through the hassle since I haven't seen anyone saying they replaced them before......would look nice to have the logo in bright white to match the footwells when opening door.....Thanks.....

There have been a couple of folks that have replaced them and wrote about it on this forum. Do a search, I forget what they call the kickplate though.

Shawn......can you tell me after modification and replacing with white LED's that the Lexus logo still has a "yellow/gold" look to it or is it truly white? You did the mod from the rear? I couldn't find the ones you're selling in classified?

Yes, i cut out the back plastic housing and updated the light from the rear of the kickplate. My first attempt many years ago was to go through the front under the metal finish. Do not do that! It's much more difficult and actually is very difficult to hammer the metal finish back into a "straight" "undented" finish. Through the back is the way to go. I have black kickplate with the space already cut out. All it needs is the LED of buyer's choice. And yes, you are correct. The unilluminated LEXUS logo is still yellow/gold. It only illuminates in the color of the LED you choose.

So if I use white LED it will be truly white when illuminated, not an off white from the yellow logo filter? What did you use to cut the plastic, and how thick is the plastic......any "surprises" to look out for on this mod? ......Thanks.

Yes they will be only bright white if that's the color you choose to go with. Check out the linked threads above. It's a simple DIY. No surprises that I recall, just take your time and use something to protect the metal finished side from scratches. I used a rotatory tool (Dremel) with a wheel attachment. Check out the links above and let us know if you have any questions..

Put the LEDs in today thanks to Shawn the job was relatively easy… the illumination is definitely brighter but it does have a slight yellowish color to it… it's not pure white obviously from the filter behind the logo overall I'm very pleased and thanks to the Pioneer's that made it easy for me and everyone else that takes on this MOD

Glad it worked out, but as for the yellowish color, it's quite strange. As the yellow isn't really transparent. The yellow part on my kickplates is a like a golden metal flake finish under the plastic housing. At least to my eyes, it looks bright and more hyperwhite.... actually like a blinding light. Haha gives me a slight headache to look at it too long. In any case, glad it was straight forward without any complications.

Shawn, if the yellow is a finish, can it be scraped off?

No it's just a gold leaf metallic print used to spell out LEXUS, if I recall correctly. The actual bulb inside the housing (that I would not recommend trying to open) was a yellow LED, therefore in changing a to white backing LED and disabling the OEM yellow bulb should no longer throw any yellow light. This has been my experience. I will take photos to illustrate tomorrow.

Shawn I did cut out the back plastic then removed the double stick tape which revealed the white plastic diffuser (I think that's what it is), and placed the new led strip on that…did I forget to remove anything else? I wonder if the slight yellow is from the new bright leds shining through the old yellow stock light bulb? could be something that was clear yellowed over time?
