....over the years, there have been reports of a cable linkage that becomes loose or you may possibly have a gear motor that isn't working properly

It might be helpful to post a video with sound.

Does the whirring sound occur when the package tray is starting to move? If so, it may be normal.

Every thing seems fine but the way the trunk pauses when the top goes up and down never did that before
any way to adjust the loose cables?

I haven't had an issue with my top, but it sounds like something isn't staying engaged. I would concentrate on the top motor, maybe the teeth are damaged on one of the motors. Do the cables connect to the motors? If so, there still could be an issue there, that's causing them to slip momentarily. Hopefully one of the members that has had top issues & resolved them will chime in

I am guessing here, but the second picture looks like it matches the part in the third picture. The part in the second picture is inverted, showing the gear which could be causing your problem.

if it were me and if you turn wrenches, I would begin by removing the covers on the passenger side trunk, then attempt to isolate where the noise is coming from.

also, I located this thread by doing an advanced search, then selecting only the sc430 threads and using key words like convertible problem etc. there are more threads on this subject.

i would not purchase any parts until you feel pretty good about the cause of the problem.

have you checked for any codes?

dont punt until you have done your research!

Here are a couple of documents that may help you. One gives the concepts of how the SC430 roof works and the other one gives the procedure the computer goes through.

See if you can use them as a checklist, until you get to the whirring part.
