Leaving my old lady for a younger mistress
Out with the old: 2002 SC430 w/ 160k miles
In with the new: Found a 2009 BMW 328i e93 convertible, 34k miles. Nav. Cold weather. Sport.
Black Friday find. Haggled down to $16k, and then added 5 yr, 100k mile warranty (because you know all about German cars...).
Gonna refinish the wheel gunmetal grey. Do some lighting mods. But I'm gonna keep her relatively untouched. I think I've outgrown crazy modding...

Good luck.
I've seen very few people go from pre-owned Lexus to pre-owned BMW... usually it's the other way around.
The low mileage on the BMW provide some good confidence, however.
Out of curiosity, how much did you get for the 2002 SC430?

I had a BMW 3 convertible. And I can tell you that she may be a younger mistress but definitely going to be a lot needier one. I wonder how much it cost to have 5yr/100k service contract on an eight year old BMW and how well it covers expensive repairs.

Well I see your going from a Lexus to a BMW along with good taste.Well I just wanted to share my thoughts with you.I
was a BMW lover for about twenty years but oneday I saw a Lexus RX 400h and then I fell in love with it.But I had my last 325i BMW
before I sold it had 220,000 miles but still in good shape. But I decided to part with it and I jumped on the Lexus RX 400H and I
am very happy. But I guess I am not twenty something anymore and I will problably stay with Lexus.

I'm sure that it will be nice going from a 2002 to a 2009 electronically-wise. It is a sharp looking 328i. At least you got the convertible. Good luck with it and enjoy the change.

My particular requirements are topped by reliability. Too many years in the vehicle biz.
The idea of a expensive maintenance car is a no go.
would have never owned a expensive car other than this Lexus.
the local Lexus dealer service guy mentioned that 90+ percent of their shop work is maintenance.
unheard of.

It seems to me that if 90% of their shop work is maintenance, that means that the cars are reliable enough that they rarely need repair work and that their maintenance programs work well enough to keep the cars reliable. Then again, I think that I know what you are talking about, maintenance can be over done.

In general at what mileage (sc430s) the repairs starts adding to the cost of ownership?
