Oil type for 2003 Lexus SC430
I recently purchased a 2003 SC430 which has 174,000 miles. Is there an oil that should be used for a high mileage vehicle or should I just use the recommended SAE 5-30 oil in the owners manual.

Nice looking SC! Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to ClubLexus.
I use conventional oil in my SC. My preference is for Pennzoil 5W-30 High Mileage. No issues at 121,000 miles.

Thanks for the tip! I will do that when I change the oil soon! By conventional oil do you mean non synthetic?

nice one, mine has almost 110k (2003) and in much worse shape cosmetically (leather dirty, wheels have curb damage). the PO really neglected the car (but it was cheap). I used Mobil 1 the last oil change. Can't feel any difference.

Yes, Pennzoil 5W-30 High Mileage is regular conventional oil. For the US market, 5W-30 conventional oil is listed / recommended in the owners manual. I get the 5W-30 Pennzoil High Mileage oil at Wal-Mart in the 5 quart jug, ~$18.

I just use whichever full synthetic 5W30 I can find which is on discount at that moment in time. But I only use full synthetic. Have used Valvoline Synpower, Mobil 1, Quaker State, Pennzoil Platinum etc..Car runs sweet after nearly 70K miles of ownership.

Did you know that Lexus has their own brand of motor oil?
However, most people agree that it is just rebranded Mobil One oil

im running eneos fully synthetic for the past 20k miles on my '03.
5W-30 and mpg slightly better by a few digits on the V8.
a little pricey but worth it.
car runs really smooth since i switched over to this compared to
previous mobil one full synthetic.

Looking on eBay, genuine Toyota Motor Oil is not so bad. 6 qts of 5w-30 for $27 bucks including a genuine Toyota Oil Filter

Of course, I heard that toyta Motor oil is just Dino oil, unless you get the one marked Synthetic
And I am assuming this is a totally legit ad.

I've seen many conversations about what oil. Oil as long as changed at proper intervals and meets the proper api rating you're fine. Everyone seems to have their preference including me as to what works best. To be honest I put a lot more on making sure what filter I buy. I find this way more important. Awhile back I came across this video. Now I'm convinced more than ever the importance of the right oil filter.
