Default Open/Close Roof top don't blink

HI,

I have 2003 SC430 my top open/close red light switch stopped even blinking from yesterday. I checked glove compartment control, all fuses in trunk and disconnected the battery for 30 mins but of no help.
Any other troubleshooting am i missing?

Thanks
Kush

So you are saying, press switch, no light, no nothing?

I think there are fuses elsewhere, although I can recall which is the top control.

You didn't mention the cover in the trunk (often a problem) but if that were the problem you'd be getting the flashing light.

If you want the light to blink, I think you can open the trunk screen. I think that is the first thing the car checks for. Of course your top won't work, but at least you know the switch works.

As far as the top not working with no lights flashing, that is usually a bad sign. The top is an awesome piece of engineering, it has multiple motors and micro switches that sends info to the CONVERTIBLE ECU.

When my top wouldn't open and I had no blinking, it turned out to be a bad motor. Finding which motor it is without the proper equipment would be both time consuming and expensive.

Lexus uses a program call Techstream that can talk to the convertible ECU and give you cryptic messages. I STRONGLY encourage you to do a search on the board for TECHSTREAM. It is the first step in solving your problem.

Also, many people think they will replace their ECU because it is easy and they can do it themselves. However, if you think about it; which is more likely to break, a motor or switch with moving parts, or a computer that just sits there? Sometimes it is the ECU, but not usually

Thanks Dashing but i opened my trunk and retractable hood cover where closed top sit but light still don't blink. So do you think their is a problem with light switch? as all fuses are good.
Also Whats ECU and how to replace that.

I really think this is a problem best suited for the dealer to solve.

I just made a post reporting the successful resolution of my own roof issue. Dashing is right that roof issues are a challenge. Few non-dealer shops will work on roof operation issues. Your first step is to get the problem diagnosed. You need to have the Lexus or Toyota dealer plug in their diagnostic equipment. You're shooting the dark right now.

Often true. A good plan might be to take it to the dealer for an estimate. When they call with the estimate, ask what error code was detected. Tell them you have to think about the whether to authorize the repair and report the error code here in the forum for advice.

I think a P0504 means your brake lights don't come on when you step on the pedal. It might be possible the two are related; since the top only works if you are stopped or going less than 5 miles an hour. However, only a special Lexus/Toyota computer (like techstream) is going to give you a convertible top error code, so I think you have other codes stored that your reader can't see.

Hey Kushsharm, did you ever take your car somewhere to have the roof codes read?

Even though I said you should take it to the dealer, any Toyota or Lexus specialist can give you the code.

Or you can google "Techstream" and get an idea of what your next step needs to be.

Yes . Today Lexus dealer gave me the code as "B2510" Short in Pulse width Modulation motor LH circuit and said it could be one of 3 motors that is bad and need repair.

Do you have any idea how much it should cost to get it repair?

Thanks
Kush

So Kush,

The dealer said it could be one of three motors.

If you have the dealer fix it, I would guess it would be somewhere in the $3000 range.

If you look on eBay, each motor is about $200 used. You could swap out each motor and see if it fixes the problem.

What I would really recommend to you, since you don't have TECHSTREAM and can't check each motor, would be to buy the entire hinge. There is a used one from a 2003 for only $149. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-LEXUS-S...xXK6CO&vxp=mtr

I would check the hinge comes complete with all the motors before purchasing it. If it does, I would just replace the entire hinge. Here is how I did it.

Dashing Thanks for the reply. So motor come within Hinge Correct? and you believe after replacing the left hinge it should fix the problem. Also should i buy only one left side or you recommend replacing both sides?

Can you please email me your email id kushsharm@gmail.com

Thanks
Kush
