I run 94 Chevron or Petrocan 94( no ethanol) . Probably in my head but ran 91 ( 10% ethanol) and it was fine but think the 94 runs better. Ran 89 once when it as ll I could find and it pinged for awhile.

At present I have 4 cars. the 2002 SC 430, 1989 Mercedes 260 E, 1979 Cadillac Eldorado & my pride & joy show car 1960 Ford Thunderbird.
I use nothing else but Premium 98 Octane here which is equivalent to 94 in the US in ALL my cars. Ethanol ( no way )

Default "AAA Premium Fuel Research"

You might want to read this new 41 page report from the American Automobile Association titled ""AAA PREMIUM FUEL RESEARCH: Proprietary research into the use of premium octane gasoline when not required by the manufacturer"

I strictly use 91 Octane Premium with NO Ethanol. The key here gentlemen, is stay away from the 10% Ethanol. Unless you want future fuel system issues. Thank you. Mgmt.

You imply that you are somehow associated with Lexus management. Are you really? For most of us, there is no ability to choose no ethanol gas. It just is not available. I have not heard of fuel system problems. What specifically are you referring to? What data do you have to back that statement up?

All information we have seen before. However, this does not mean there have been fuel system problems. This posted on a site that repairs fuel injectors. Kind of biased. If you know of info that is independently verified that there are ongoing fuel system problems, please post it. I would be very interested.

even according to this . Most cars since the eighties has been adapted to handle ten percent ethanol. The exception being outboard motors. Which took into the new millennium to update.

Timely thread. With the difference being 75 cents per gallon in my area, I was wondering whether Lexus indicated that premium was "recommended" or "required." From what Consumer's Reports says,, if premium merely "recommended" by the manufacturer than there's no harm in using regular. However, if the manufacturer says "premium required" then its very bad news to use regular. Anyone have the official Lexus word?

When I am on a road trip, I will use 89 sometimes...it’s not going to harm the engine with the cruise set on 80mph. The engine is not loaded down and very little chance of pinging.

I have used regular grade gas on both SC430 and LS430 many times with zero issues. Especially when weather is cold, or for long easy flat interstate road trips I often switch to good quality Tier 1 regular grade gas and have had no issues.

I would stick to premium grade gas in the max heat of summer, or if driving in demanding situations (mountains, bumper to bumper traffic, etc).
