To a point, yes. If you shift down to Regular D which is below the N, that's the OverDrive mod. Slide the gear selector over the LEFT so it's in 4D and that's the sport equivalent. It's not the same as the Sporttronic/Triptronic as the 2006+ have with the + and - for shifting. As explained before, you can also initiate the POWER mode button in the same area and that will change the shift points to unleash the beast a little more.

NOT 300 hp at the wheels
[QUOTE=Retroplay;9355222] We have nearly 300HP at the wheels. .
Well, not really. We have 288hp at the flywheel, corrected in later models from the erroneously claimed 300 in the earlier models. Subtracting the standard 15% for driveline loss and we have 245 at the wheels.
3840 lbs with 245 hp = 15.7lbs/hp = not very fast.
2016 Camry V6 3480lbs, 228 wheel hp = 15.3lbs/hp
2016 Mustang V6 3526lbs, 255 wheel hp = 13.8lbs/hp
Our SC430s are nice cars but don't try to kid yourself that they are fast or particularly powerful.

The point is, it seems what is "normal" mode for our car doesn't really feel like normal.
But more like rain mode where it feels subdued.
Activating power mode feel like what "normal" should be.
And if you want an actual extra oomph, or what a real powers mode should be for the car, then slap it on 4-D with power mode on.
Has nothing to do with tuning the car for racing.

If you really want a thrill, do this...
From a stop and ready to make a left or right turn
Put it in power mode
Place the shifter in L or first gear
Push the VSC button
When you take off, push the accelerator to the floor
HOLD ON and have fun!

The horsepower calculation may have changed due to updated calculations but the aspect of time has not. 0 to 60 in 5.8s, is still pretty respectful for a stock SC430. Might not be the quickest rabbit around, but def not the last elephant in the herd. Not to mention the upgrades some might have done to quicken that number.
Food for thought (as I'm sure my reply will trigger the hunger response). :-)

Now, I'm gonna go make me a sandwich.... Mmmmmmm sandwich.
Ohh ya, additionally. In the words of my role model, Richard Rawlings, "There's no replacement for displacement." 4.3L is a beast. If this car didn't weigh so much, she'd be a man eater.

So I tried out the 4 shift position with power mode and I agree that the experience is totally different. The car feels like it is floating and throttle response seems spot on.
But I am concerned whether this is actually healthy for the transmission. You are literally keeping it in 4th gear, right? Probably fine for highway driving, but what affect will it have during city driving?

So far, I've been driving in Power mode and on "D" to be on the safe side, as I know it wouldnt hurt to constantly drive in this mode. And even on this mode, I can definitely tell a difference, so I want to keep driving in this mode from now on.
Its the "4-D" I'm not too sure about.
And I have to admit, I also like that extra oomph putting it on "4-D".
So, what I've been doing at the moment when I want to put it on "4-D" is while I'm in residential area, I leave it on "4-D", and then once I get on the freeway or go over 50 mph...I slap it back to "D".

I do the same as you do Remy; 4D in city and residential driving. Switch OverDrive D when getting on the highway. Have done it for the last two and half years and haven't seen a single problem. I don't drive with POWER mode on though. My MPG's have actually increased with this method from around 16mpg to 20mpg on average with mixed city and highway driving.

I don't know how the 02 shift configuration is, but on my 07, I would drive in D for normal driving and fuel economic. If I need some power, I would push Power button and step on the accel. If I want to have some fun, I would shift over S mode and manually shift from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Us pre-2006 edition, we use the PWR mode and do the C Shifting. Makes me smile.
