Question Stereo volume and equalizer functions not working

Volume and equalizer controls stopped working on my 2002 this morning. Were functioning when I drove to the tennis club but not working on subsequent start up. Anyone have a diagnosis? Thanks.

On the back of the radio, you could check the center connector (should only have two wires in it) and see if it came loose. This is the datalink that controls the amp.

Thanks, I'll take a look. It's odd because I do get sound but I can't adjust the volume. Volume control on steering wheel doesn't work either but all other functions work. Probably the amplifier.

The audio output from the radio is line level. All of the controls for volume and equalizer are done using commands over the AVC-LAN bus to the amp.

Does your NAV still work?

If not loose wiring at either that connector in the radio or at the amp, then possibly the amp has gone bad. I'm betting on wiring, though.

Just went back out to the car and tried the stereo again. Everything is working. I hate intermittent electrical problems! You're probably right about it being a wiring issue. Thanks!

Interesting! Checked the cars service history on the Lexus site and discovered that both the amp and head unit had been replaced twice prior to 2005. One head unit replacement was for the same problem that I described. Finally got around to checking the connection at the amplifier and I removed and reinstalled same. Seemed to happen early morning when temps were in high 30s so poor connection would make sense. Anyway, has been ok since.

Awesome. Let us know if it repeats. Could also be pinched wiring or corrosion in the connectors.

Glad to hear that the problem appears to be resolved.
