Yes, you are correct. There is no "true 2001 SC430", but there were some very minor differences between those called / built 2001 and those in 2002. (Mine is a 2002 built in June.) With regards to the effects on the VIN, I don't know.
With regards to the mirror, I agree that any mirror up to 2009 should be interchangeable, though I've never checked it myself.

There is a tag on the door, at the bottom is a number, mine has No.058 and my car was built Feb 01. Also, my VIN last four is around 2100.
What number does your tag show?
And to stay on topic, the mirror on the 2002-2004 are exactly the same and as Harold stated they may be the same all the way to 2009.

Just did a little eBay research and it appears the mirrors are the same for years 2002-2008.
And 2009-2010 are different. I am not going to say 2009-2010 are the same but I know the mirror glass is the same...concord Lexus has an advertisement for the 2009-2010 mirror glass, with PN, on eBay.

Bgw, mine was built in 06/02, it is number 056 and the last four digits are 2907. When you say that yours is around 2200, do you mean that it is 22xx (with xx being nonspecific)?

Since your bottom number is 056, I am not sure what it means...mine is 058.
Correction, my car was built Feb 2001.

I was thinking that ScDrop had done a sticky on this.I know that he did some extensive work on figuring out what all those numbers meant.I'll try to search it a little later....also, on the mainpage of CL, there is a vin decoder in the tool section dropbox. I don't know if this will give you the info you're looking for,but might be worth a try

Thanks Ed, I tried the VIN Decoder in the tools previously and it doesn't matter what number I toggle in the year field, it will repeatedly show 2002. The reason I am trying to track this down, is that I was told (at the time of purchase), that mine was special ordered from Japan, "hand made", and one of the first produced. IF mine, being a 2002 which was made in 2002 (which I picked up in June 2002), when there were previously some made in 2001 means I was lied to by my dealer. Doesn't make much difference at this point, but just wanted to straighten myself out. This is why I'm trying to find out if the VIN reflects the year of production or only proposed finalized model.

Shawn,
The tag in your door should state the build date.

VIN check
Hi Guys
Try your Vin in the site below and you may get some more info
I entered my VIN no. on this site http://www.vindecoderz.com and came up with some conflicting info. Top section has my car as " Year 2005" with an estimated milage of "171,757 km".
The lower section with "additional information" seems more accurate with a production date of "10 2001", destination Europe and RHD.
The car was first registered in Ireland in Feb 2002 and now has a little over 60,000 miles on the clock.
Hope this helps.
