New to me 02 SC430
Hey,
Just picked up an 02 SC with 100k on the clock and am loving it so far. I've already done the timing belt and water pump plus upper control arms. It runs great. I've owned many lexus vehicles but this is my first convertible. Great forum with some real enthusiasts . See you on the road....

Thanks guys... no other plans for the car this year. Just driving it as much as possible before the winter. Though i do have some work to do on the stereo..i believe the front 6×9 speakers are toast and im getting the infamous error 3 message on the cd player. Oh yeah, the bug catcher is my 14 yr old son...lol. he's 6'3 already and can only fit in the car with the top down...

Speaker repair, there is a vendor on eBay that sells repair kits for our speakers or you can find replacement speakers there too. I have purchased both because my car had aftermarket 6x9s and some of the ML OEM speakers were repaired with the kits.
In both cases everything worked out well.
Also, you may have seen them already, but if not, there are some good threads on the Mark Levenson (ML) systems.

Congrats on your new acquisition jmurph648.
14 years old and 6'3"? Mercy, he's going to be a big one! You may have to get a monster vehicle just to tote him around in a couple of years.

Thanks again guys...
The only modification to the car are the rims i believe . I haven't really looked into anything else. I basically started by getting the maintenance up to date. I replaced the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, air and cabin filters plus spark plugs and also the rear differential fluid. I had my shop replace the upper control arms as they were pretty loose.
The only problem i have now is a random hesitation when i press the accelerator. I believe its fuel injection related. I'll run some cleaner through it to see if that helps, if not my shop can do a full cleaning. Oh and i need to do the airbag recall soon...

There are several paths to take to resolve the issue that I consider dangerous.
> You can live with it. (Not an option for most of us.)
> You can put the car in PWR mode all the time. (Most folks discover that they actually get better gas mileage in this mode also, which is a little surprising.) After a couple of tank fulls, the response is almost back to what should be normal.
> If your car is a 2005 or older, you can use the gear shift to manually move through the gears.
> You can reset the ECU by either disconnecting power for a few minutes (keep in mind that this also can reset all your settings for your radio stations, seats, steering wheel and mirrors) or you can reset it by using the engine reset sequence.
ECU reset procedure:
If you want to reset the ECU without losing your seat and stereo settings,
perform the following procedure:
1. Get in your car and insert key. (It doesn't matter if you close the door or not.)
2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position
(don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
5. Wait 2 minutes.
6. Remove key.
7. Done
