My apologies...I saw the model number in the first link....So if I did some or all of this...looks scary for a novice like me and I would rely on my car stereo guy but is it "relatively straightforward" to upgrade for them. He has done some SC430s but we have not gotten into details as I'm hoping it is repairable.
Thinking not only about the new touch screen integrations, but interface to existing audio components, antenna, maybe fuses, adding a mic (I do not have a mic today in the 2002). Any thoughts after the fact appreciated, Any great job!

It would be very easy for your stereo guy. The beatsonic interface was plug and play and it allows the continued use of the steering wheel controls.
The mic came with the radio and as you could see I used the factory location...the audio is very clear, even with the roof down.
The sound is much improved due to the radios built in equalizer and additional input amplification to the amp.
BTW, that was the first thing my wife told me after the installation, she noted improved sound quality.
I like this radio but if I were to do it again, I would have purchased the Pioneer app radio. It allows you to completely mirror all of your apps from your phone.
If you have your your stereo guy install the backup camera, be sure to show him where I connected the wires in the junction box. Why you ask, because I did not cut or splice any wires.

btw...no results yet from the bench test of the radio...should be Monday to see if it can be repaired. If not, then I will run some of these options by him. I think he did mention he has done Beatsonic in this car model before. I'm almost wishing it can't be fixed..lol. I'm almost afraid to ask...what approx will this cost me for the new radio??

diwinski,
There have been several different head units installed by members. TiBob did one with a Pioneer AVH-P4400BH and did an excellent DYI write up on the forum. There are several in that Pioneer family (AVX-xxxxx) that will fit and do a good job. It just depends on what features you want and how much you want to pay.
Others have used a Kenwood DNX692 or DDX492 and said that there is much less screen wash out when the top is down with the Kenwood. It will mainly depend on personal preferences. The Kenwood was recorded on this forum also.
The adapter that you'll need is made by Beatsonic or another is made by PAC_AUDIO (SW1-RC, IIRC). I know very little about either though since I have not done this myself yet. I do know that with the Beatsonic, you have to be careful about where the volume is set at before installing it to make sure that it is at the proper level and even then the volume can get messed up if you do something that I can't remember what it is right now.

There is a little washout from the sun but I can still see the screen well enough to make changes. I believe someone said the kenwood was easy to see. But I am not sure if they did a side by side comparison or just opinion.
If I were to do it again, I would purchase the Pioneer App radio. SPH-DA120

I installed the Pioneer AVHX5700BHS. It is a fantastic radio and you can add the $30 XM/ Sirius module for that type of radio. It has GPS, Internet radio, two camera inputs, android mirroring and yes, it has Bluetooth. That is why I installed the microphone. It has many more capabilities, just google the model numbers and look for the link to the Pioneer website. There you will find everything the radio can perform. $359
Amazon.com : Pioneer AVHX5700BHS Double-DIN DVD Receiver with 7-Inch Motorized Display, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, SiriusXM-Ready, HD Radio, Android Music Support, Pandora, and Dual Camera Inputs : Car Electronics
NOTE: the app radio I listed earlier cannot use XM/Sirius, again go to pioneer.com to check out all capabilities.
When I found out I could not receive XM, I decided I might not want this radio, I could use Pandora or iHeart radio.
