I have an update to tell everyone. It's not good. Too mad to write it out right now but it is quite a story. More to come..
I totally feel your anger & frustration. It happened to my first car when it got hit by a taxi while parked. The tow truck driver ask me to sign two paper works. One for acknowledging the tow and one for a auto collision shop to store for car for insurance inspection. Police informed us damaged car can not stay on the street. I have no choice but to sign it for auto collision shop to store it. My car was inspected one week later but I was never informed. The shop call me a day later that they are repairing my car while the insurance didn't approve the claim yet. I went to the shop only to find out the repair was half way complete. After arguing, they show me a signed consent for the shop to repair the car......WTF.
The so call consent was the same acknowledgement that I agree to store the car in the shop. There was one line in the back stating the shop can process with repair once inspected by insurance. Insurance quoted $8,000 in damage. I was so pissed for the bait & switch but nothing much I can do on the legal side. At least the car was fixed in 5 days and quality was good (all OEM parts as required on the estimate).
Long story short. It took me 7 months to fight with the taxi's insurance to cut me a check that cover only 80%. I end up paying the 20%.
Lessons learned:
1. Not to trust any auto shop (rent a parking space and avoid storing it in auto shop)
2. Don't sign anything unless you read and understand it. They will tow your car with or without signature.
