Had the console replaced today. It had been ruined when re-installng the radio. They looked at taking out the cupholder, but when I go the car it was still there. As I did not get a chance to talk to anyone (my son picked up the car) , I do not know what they found when they looked at removing the cupholder. However, I will have a chance to talk some more as they again cut the vinyl on the new console when they put the radio back in and they have now ordered another console. I'll be headed back in in a few days. Obviously putting the radio back into the console is a tricky event.

Now have input from Lexus dealer on why they could not remove the cup holder for me when they replaced the vinyl center console (for second time). Said that when they looked it was apparent that removing the cupholding mechanism would also make me lose the door to the cupholder. My instructions had been to only do it if the door could be retained.
