Gone after 14 years
I have had my SC430 since April of 2001, and it has been nothing but fun ever since, but now it's time to move on. Yesterday I traded it in for a new RC350, and although I have not yet found a button on the dash that folds the top in half and stashes it in the trunk, this looks to be a great car.
More importantly, I appreciate all the help and information I have received here over the past 14 years, and hope that I have been able to have provided assistance to other owners. I'll check in here from time to time so see what's happening and to answer questions if I can, as these cars will be on the road for many years.
PS: if anybody is interested in a top of the line car cover, car bra or even a spare tire, send me a PM.
Thanks again to the folks at this wonderful forum.

The new car is absolutely spectacular. The red is called "infrared," and is a special paint technique just developed by Lexus. They offer it in this red and in a blue (RC350 F-Sport only). It's a base coat of a metallic silver, which acts like a mirror; over that they put a few coats of clearcoat, and then a translucent red, and top it off with more clearcoat. Photographs (especially as dusk) don't do it justice as it's very deep, and the color changes with the intensity and even the angle of the light. It's hard to go incognito with this color.
Thanks for the comments.

Beautiful car! How does the rc350 compare to the sc430 in terms of suspension and power? They are both obviously gorgeous cars, but I'd imagine the rc350 is more of a pure sports car? And how is the throttle response and transmission? I have always thought lexus to be too conservative in those respects.
In any event, congrats on the great purchase and I think you will be happy!!

Is the RC made in Japan?

Yes, the RC is made in Japan. Or at least mine was, as the first digit of the VIN is a "J." Also, the last 6 digits are "000333" indicating that this car was #333 to roll off this assembly line. Wherever it was assembled, they did a pretty good job.

Hi Tfischer
Firstly congrats on a spectacular choice, I love the colour combo and have yet to see one of these in the flesh in Ireland. Seems like I may be moving into the seat you kept warm for the last 14 years as I have just got my hands on a 2002 SC 430 after a lot of searching. Hope we both have many years of safe, fun and trouble free driving ahead of us. Good Luck.
