Default Traded in our 2007 SC430 on a Truck

Yesterday, end of month, I bought a 2014 Ford F150 Crew cab Pickup with tow package and twin turbo 3.5 L ECO boost engine. We needed something bigger than our CT 200h to transport items the 250 miles from one home to another and ability to tow a trailer.

We were not going to trade and I initially negotiated outright purchase. Truck MSRP was $42,000 and with $4,200 X-Plan discount and 3 separate rebates totaling and additional $5,800 it was $32,000 +++.

Then I brought up, what would you give me for our 2007 SC430 with 18,170 miles on it. The Initial offer was $25,000. So we did the negotiation dance for about 2 hours and eventually I was able to get offer up to $33,750. I'm still shocked they went that high. Their sister Lexus dealer supposedly already has a buyer for it. Of course I parked it in front with the top down during negotiations. It attracted lots of attention from the sales people and even customers. The sales manager took pictures and sent them to the sister Lexus dealer for offers.

So I got a $42,000 MSRP 2014 Ford F150 and $1,500 cash in my pocket for our 2007 sc430.

With the trade I didn't have to pay sales tax and with X-Plan the $600 "dealer fee" was only $100.

I will miss the 2007 Silver/Saddle SC430 but we still have our red/ecru SC430 that I love.

FLYCT- "Traded in our 2007 SC430 on a Truck"

I never thought I'd see the day you negotiated a Lexus for a Ford product. A V6 ecoboost no less. Should have traded the Lexus CT200h... Perhaps you can affix a bumper sticker to the Ford that reads "My other car is a Lexus SC430!" Lol.

There you go. I like that

My wife and I are long time private pilots and aircraft owners. For years we had a bumper sticker "My other car is an Airplane."

Thanks DarthSid... I just can't believe FLYCT broke up the "Team of two" Lexus SC430's! But, necessity prevailed for his individual situation. At least he still has the other one.

Thumbs up Great deal!

Very nice! Now you have a workhorse pickup truck, a gorgeous cruising convertible, and a comfortable car for commuting and road trips. Too bad Lexus doesn't make pickup trucks.

That was a truly excellent deal, especially avoiding sales tax like that. Flyct, dunno whether it matters to you but the 2014 is the last of the current body style for the F150. They are in the process of cutting over production in a matter of weeks to the Atlas platform new generation F150 ( largely aluminum body ) which should hit dealerships by the end of the year. That may partly explain how you got a great discount.

Great trade nonetheless. Very impressive haggling !

Eddy,

We bought it at the Bradenton Ford dealer. As X-Plan buyer the price is stated on the invoice which they are obligated to show you. With X-plan, every rebate and incentive must be applied or Ford kicks the contract back. The $699 dealer fee is maxed at $100 per X-Plan. So the only real negotiation is the trade in price. They valued my trade initially at $25,000, then added the trade rebates ($500 + $750) and additional $7,500 on top of that to bring trade in price to $33,750

There were I think a total of 5 or 6 rebates applied. 2 of which ($1,250) were due to having a trade in.

We loaded up the truck and drove it to Fort Lauderdale last night. It was extremely comfortable and got 21.5 mpg according to the dash computer.

I'm aware of the new body style for 2015. They are reducing weight by 700+ pounds in 2015. I'm sure that's why all these rebates are available.

The aluminum frame reduces weight by 60 pounds. The rest if the weight reduction is in elsewhere. They are also introducing a 2.7L Ecoboost.

Here are some of the rebates and incentives being offered. You can combine many of them.

Rest of the story.

I was very surprised at the prices I was offered for our 2097 SC430.

The Ford dealer's sister Lexus dealer already had a hot buyer for my SC430. The Ford dealer offered to buy my 2007 Silver SC430 outright for $32,500 EVEN IF I DIDNT'T BUY A TRUCK FROM THEM. If I decided to trade it in there was an additional $1,250 factory incentive so that brought it up to $33,750.

So I bought $42,xxx MSRP a Ford F150 FOR $32,xxx after X-Plan discount and multiple rebates and incentives. The only tax I had to pay was on $4,250 of the rebates since law requires they counted as cash down payment.

Last summer when I was looking to downsize and sell one of our 4 Lexus's the local Lexus dealer only offered me $29,500 for outright sale for the 2007 Sc430.

Low mileage, spotless SC430's still command premium value out there.

Wow.....great deal.

I love my truck because I can drive over anything without having to worry about road conditions....potholes....speed bumps like I do when driving all me lowered cars.
