Default Help please, what to look for on 2003 SC430?

My friend found this one for $10,000. It has 83,000 miles on it and looks pretty clean. Just by looking at the photos is there anything to look for? Last time it was service at the Lexus dealer was at 60,000 miles. Is the price fair? Thanks

Try to get a Carfax report or something like that. Check for dealer repair/service records. Wheels have been up-graded to later model. Interior looks good and clean. Price seems low for an '03. Make sure it wasn't wrecked. Good luck!

Was it re-painted? That would be a clue.

I still don't believe it. I've never seen an SC under 15K and that's with 150K+ miles.

The totaled title ones are still around 15k.

Also watch out for a flooded vehicle. They are junk, especially if it was saltwater.

Well title is clean. They were asking $13,000. But its been for sale for about a month so they lowered it too $10,000 this week.

He wants me to go with him tomorrow for another test drive. Anything to look out for? If all goes well I think hes planning to take it home.

A few thoughts...

The lower price might be due to the summer season being over and winter coming on.

It's possible that the Service entry with "Replace Engine" was truncated and continues with "Air Filter".
Air Filter replacement at 30K is common.

Make sure there no Engine Check, VSC, or other error lights. Actually, it would be better to bring your
own ODB2 scan tool and check for any stored or pending codes. The guy selling the 2004 SC430 I bought
was resetting the codes every-time I test drove it plus when he signed the title and sold it...

The car originally came with two remote FOB keys, one plain Valet key and a flat wallet pack key. Try to get
all of them.

The Navigation systems can have problems, so open the door and run it the whole time you do your
test drive. Also check to see how old the maps are.

Operate the roof ( open & closed ) several times. Check for fit and function.

Get a CarFax report if the dealer doesn't offer one. It could be well worth the money.

There is a pretty good check list of things to look for in a Sticky Post.

It's tough to search for things on a flooded car. ANY internal rusting would be a clue. Engine compartment or under dash or along door edges. Re-painting of car. It's common to see the front bumper re-painted due to stone chips, etc. Looks like it did receive good dealer servicing. I noticed it was sold as a Certified pre-owned in 2007 so that's a good thing. Again, check it out very carefully before buying. Good luck! These are great cars if not abused.

...the entry may not have been completed & "engine mounts" (located on next line & same date) could be the completion of that entry detail. I thought this possible because the entry was written in capital letters & the next entry starts off the same way...could all go together ???

Would they have changed the oil and filter before they replaced the engine? Getting a new engine is a good thing most of the time, I can't see Lexus replacing an engine on a flood car. There were a lot of hurricanes and flooding in the summer of 2005.
