Default radio glass covering cleaning question

I have a 2002 SC 430, and it is in great condition. The only wart on it is the glass covering on the stereo system, i.e. the glass protecting the digital readouts for time, fm station etc. The glass is not clear anymore, it is dull in appearance, especially with the top down and the sun shining on it. Is there a way to polish it and getting it looking clear again?

Thanks in advance

I had to tear down my head unit one time due to CD changer stuck and actually tore down this radio lens. The discoloration is on the outside, inside lens was pristine. Turns out they use a film or top coat of some sort for glare control and this is the one that's corroded.

I used Plastx on mine and it cleared some of it. However beware do it at your risk. I can not guarantee same results. For me it was better for glare than the lens looking like crap.

Default Is warranty possible?

I have this same problem with my 2010. It sure looks like the problem is inside rather than outside though. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried getting the glass repaired or replaced under the Lexus new car warranty?

I'm a little confused.

Time display is not on the radio screen but rather on the environmental I.e. Climate control display.

If it's the damaged anti-glare coating is on the environmental, climate control display (a/c temp, clock etc) that complete panel or bezel is replaceable. I don't have part number here but from memory option runs about $200.

I tried to look for it but I read a thread in which someone had a problem with the lens on the A/C control unit being distorted and "foggy". They were able to diagnose that the inner screen and outer screen were starting to "separate," and they used some special "digitizer" fluid on the inner lens which solved their problem. I will continue to look for it and post anything I find. Might be cheaper than a whole replacement unit.

Oops, I'm the one confused and you are right. My question is still the same though. My SC is still under the original factory warranty. Would this be a covered item? It is hard to see if the damage is inside or outside the glass. I assume if it is the anti glare coating, that is outside?

I think Plastx is a miracle product, I did the same. Still only $7.25 at Walmart. Just be easy and take your time.

Anti-glare coating is on the outside.

It depends on your relationship with your Lexus service advisor. You can't loose anything by asking.

Since you're still within the original factory warranty you have a good chance that they will replace it under warranty. If the service advisor rejects it ask if he/she would request the factory rep consider it as "good will" being you own multiple Lexi.

Yea, that's it: Plastx! These guys were right on the money. I haven't personally tried it but it was highly recommended on a few other forums that I check in on.

I have a 2005 SC430 with the same foggy screen. In mine, it is not the outside of the glass; it's either on the inside or caused by the screens separating. 'Won't know until I remove the covering bezel and see.

On that note, how do you remove the covering bezel ??? tks

I did have the panel assembly replaced under the warranty. The part # was listed as 55902-24130.
My paperwork did not list price since it was a warranty item.
I knew it was best to get a 2010 still under factory warranty. They also replaced drivers seat belt for not retracting properly and even replaced the battery with a 7-year battery. Good timing on the battery, since my warranty expires in August.

That part number may be unique to your model year 2010 SC430.

The parts listing for faceplate on the A/C control box for model years 2002-2009 SC430 with GPS is 55901-24030 aka 5590124030

Street price is $218 from dealers like Atlanta Lexus online

Another vote for plastx but be careful to only polish left to right, back and forth. It worked great but I accidently polished the sides up and down and did some damage to the polarizer creating vertical scratcher that won't polish out.
