Default ABS alarm and light

I searched for this subject and did not find anyone with this exact problem.

Yesterday, my SC430 started screeching and the VSC lights came on. I had never heard this alarm before -- sort of between a whistle and a screech. I was a few blocks from home, so I continued on. I did not notice if the ABS light was on at this time, but I don't think it was, because I would have noticed an unusual light on the dash.

After reading the posts on the VSC lights here, I disconnected the battery briefly, but not 3 minutes, and the alarm continued when I switched the car on. This morning, I disconnected the battery again, this time for more than 3 minutes. Again, the alarm screeched when I started the car and pulled out of the garage. I switched it off, and then back on, and the alarm stopped. I thought I had solved the problem. I was wrong.

Later this morning, I drove to the bank, and when I took it out of drive after visiting the ATM, the alarm started again. It continued until I got home. This time, the ABS light is on, in addition to the VSC lights.

On the way to the bank, I made one fairly hard stop at a yellow light, but I have made far harder stops without any lights -- and especially annoying alarms -- coming on.

None of the posts I have found here mention this alarm when the ABS light is discussed.

I have checked the brake fluid level, and it was full. The car was in a Toyota dealership last month for its 120,000-mile timing belt, and the rear brake shoes and rotors were replaced then.

I have yet to begin checking the fuses, but I don't really think this is the problem. Before I try bridging the post in the computer terminal, I plan to visit the local auto-parts store that will read the computer for trouble codes.

Does anyone have an idea what is going on here?

Thanks for any advice.

If the rear brakes were touched. I suspect the speed sensors for ABS/VSC were misaligned from the installed of rotors. Just a guess.

Default UPDATE: power braking out

After my initial post, I was going to take the car to the auto-parts store to get the code read, but the power braking was totally gone, meaning I had to stomp the parking brake just to get down my steep driveway.

I then diverted directly to my independent garage, who will check it out first thing Monday.

I will let everyone know what went wrong when I find out.

Even though the ABS light had been on twice before, this was the first time that the braking had actually been affected.

I'm having somewhat similar issues like you. My ABS and VSC light comes and then goes away while I drive. So i'm not sure if it's my sensors alignments but my mechanic guy says it's my traction however even when I put new tires and rims on the vehicle the light still comes and goes. Also, now my tmps lights are on and the tire shop says they should disappear after driving for 20 or 30 miles. I drove almost 30 miles and still on =(

Default Diagnosis: Skid control ECU bad

The word from my mechanic is that the skid control ECU is bad and it should go to the dealership.

Anyone have an idea what this should cost? Can a Toyota dealership do it?

Again, thanks for sharing your experiences.

The two VSC lights and the ABS lights on the dash are solid, plus there is the annoying solid whistle/screech alarm that I'd never heard before.

Try this https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...hlight=VSc+Vsc from post #10 and see if the lights would reset.

Default Brake master cylinder failure

The garage scanned the computer and found these codes:

C1223 abs fault
C1251 pump motor seized/open
C1252 hydroboost pump motor locked
C1256 acc. pressure low

It turned out the master cylinder was bad, so they're replacing that. Big $$$.

The funny (I'm not laughing, though) thing is that the lights came on a day before the brakes went out.
