Default 2jz motor swap on a SC430

Does anyone know if this is a easy swap? I've seen a few posts on forums that these bolt right in. I'm wondering what the down side is? My motor is blown and it's cheaper up front to buy the 2jz instead of the 3uz motor. Any tips? I think I want the twin turbo over the 4.3 dog

What caused the motor to fail

There was a clicking noise in the upper end. I tracked to what I thought was an injector that was bad. I ordered the injector and by the time the injector arrived the valve let go and dropped into the cylinder. It threw 2 or 3 codes and I when I checked it just said cylinder misfire on 6, 8 and general misfire. I drove it to the dealership because I was out of answers and of course my fiance banging me about getting it fixed faster. lol They scoped into the cylinder after a compression test failure on the cylinder 8. He said he could see the valve pushed through the top of the piston. When I break **** I break it good! I'm hoping to find out about this 2jz swap ive been reading about. I can buy a cheap car or ride my rice rocket for the summer while I fix this thing.

That's a real catastrophic failure for a 2006 . How much mileage on car. Did you have any powertrain warranty left.

A 2JZ-GTE swap can be done, but it will be a big big big job. If you get it running and producing power for under $6,000 including labour you will be doing well. I've had a 1JZ and a 2JZ engined cars, and the fuel consumption of them was 50% more than I'm spending on my SC430. A serious point to ponder.

If it was me, I would pull a second hand 430 engine out of an LS or GS430 and be done with it.
It won't be a garage queen for 12 months while you scour the planet for trick bits to make it work, it will be easily done in 20 man hours or less, if you get a crated engine delivered to your garage.

Now if you do go the 2JZ-GTE route, give DJ Sato a shout. He's pushing 1200 bhp out of his SC430 drift car and he might share the parts list needed to do the same to yours !!

V300 thank you very much. I dont need a garage queen. Its a slick car and yes the failure was a bit of a surprise. There is 145k on it. I drove it like I stole it but no real reason why the valve dropped into the path of the cyclinder. I was under hard acceleration when it failed. My luck of course. I had a SC400 that I sold to a kid with 286,000 and the last I've heard from him he had 390,00 on it. Was hoping for the same on this car but afraid not.

It's not the same engine at all. I've seen detailed analysis of the Toytoa/Lexus V8 4.0 engines progression from it's first days in the LS400 MK1 and with each stretch and rework, the engine was less poorly engineered in an effort to make it smoother, and I suppose reduce costs too.

Should we all be pulling out our engines and putting in new valves at the 100k mark to avoid this problem, one wonders ? I'm 10k away from the 100k mark....

No, there are quite a few members with well over 100kmi on their SC430s. You should be fine if you take care of it properly.

Or not 86,000 mi RIP
Lesson learned if you are not sure how deep a puddle is, walk home. 12" is an SC killer
