Default Learning the hard way

I'm telling a story on myself, with the hope it doesn't happen to anyone else. Fortunately all is well.

This morning, after a trip to the store, where I had placed my packages in what was left of the trunk when you have the top down, I got home and was putting the top up. Not thinking, while pressing "CLOSE" I decided I would open the trunk. All of a sudden I realized that the trunk opens from the front when opening and closing the top, when a red light came on at close.

Now I have a trunk lid that is just attached at the hinges, which won't close. If I had broken the top, I was wondering how I could get it to the mechanic to repair it without the trunk lid ending up in the middle of the highway.

After playing with the trunk lid a bit, I realized that the hinges moved up and down manually so I was able to lift it up. I was then able to adjust the angle of the truck lid to align the lid to the trunk latch, and reconnect it, and then close the trunk. I started the car, and was able to close the top.

So many lessons to learn with this car! It is fun though.

Chris, I'm glad you figured it out. Don't feel bad, others have done that also. (I've been fortunate that I've stopped myself before pressing the trunk button!)

There are instructions for manually closing the top if something happens midway. It is in your manual and a better set is included in an earlier thread on the forum.

The manual warns about doing this, and there's a TSB on how to undo it if you do it.

But, I've always thought...if it's a very bad thing to do...why isn't the trunk release button disabled while the top is in motion!?!?

Why isn't the car smart enough not to allow you to make that kind of mistake?

Thanks. I had that very same thought when the trunk lid was soaring!
