Default Dealer replaced Battery and now top will not work?

Good Morning,

I took my SC out of storage 2 weeks ago and had the dealer replace the front and rear brakes, complete job including rotors at 40,000 miles $1600! OUCH

The car would not start when the tech went to move it and the Service Writer suggested I have him check the battery.

When I bought the car used 2 yrs ago part of the deal was the dealer installing a new battery. They installed a AC Delco at the time. Well the dealer discovered my battery was shot and asked me if they could replace it with a Factory Lexus Battery for $225. I told them to go ahead.

I drove the car home and put into the garage and on a tender.

This morning I woke up early to get the car State Inspected and while I was at the inspection station I decided I would put the roof down.

I checked the rear trunk luggage slider, it was in it's correct position. I pressed open and all that I got was a blinking red light, no green, no windows down, no nothing!

Is there a procedure the dealer should have done when they replaced the battery? Is there a simple list of items I can check to put myself out of my frustration?

THANKS in advance!

Andrew

Did you check the switch in the glove box? open the glove box and look to the left side of the glove box by the frame.

just my 02 cents. you could have gotting the best drilled and sloted rotors and pads for under 800.00 installed at your mechanic shop not a brake shop. I would say OUCH. you buy your stuff and have them installed save lot of money. ask first will try to help.

I'm also guessing that the push-button in the glove box was set to the wrong position (why were they in there?).

As for the brake job: that seems 'just a bit high' (paraphrasing Bob Euker in "Major League"). They must have replaced all four calipers as well, and maybe a miscellaneous suspension part or two, wheel bearings, something!!!??? Seriously.

Sounds just like your glove box switch is set in valet mode

When I had my car to the dealer for regular service, the glove box switch got changed to the VALET position. Maybe this is a scam so that you will bring in the car again for unnecessary top service or maybe it is a precaution of some kind.

Actually, it's a nationwide conspiracy amongst all Lexus dealers. They have all colluded to ensure that this switch is set to valet so they can make more money. Typical of all those one percenters!!!!! They should be ashamed of themselves. Profit is evil!!!

I on the other hand opened my glove box and inadvertently the switch got set on valet. I must have pressed it or else closing it it somehow moved. I had same problem when top would not go down. luckily I remembered to check this and found what I had done

Why do the rotors need to be replaced at 40k miles?

My wife accidentally hit the valet switch (trunk lock) in the glove box just last week. It’s not uncommon and pretty easy to accidentally bump the button and it pops out.

The dealer may have been in the glove box looking for wheel lock key and bumped the button and out it pops.
