Default License plate LED bulb question

So so the dealership failed my inspection on my 07 sc430. Saying I need to replace my rear LED license plate bulb... at $312.00.. I said you're crazy.. anyways is there an alternate solution for a replacement? I've seen online the stock bulb is around $170.00.. Saw some people use ebay led's wanted to get some input. As long as it past state inspeciton I dont care the quality of the bulb.

Thanks

I think if you were to call Lexus Corp They would love to hear about this price gouging. There is no way that charge is justifed. The bulb is at most 5.00 and it take 5 min to change. Are you sure they said license plate bulb or was it the trunk mounted brake light. Where did you see the stock on line bulb for 170.00. It cant be a license plate bulb it must be the brake light led.

Your 07 comes with LED board license plate lights, NOT 194/168 bulbs.
You need to replace the whole unit instead.

So here's a wierd idea ... How about downgrading to the 02-05 license plate wiring and lenses ... And use new LEDs. Would look good and doesn't cost much. Less than $50 on Sewell. IJDMtoy has newer and brighter LEDs all low cost for 168's.

Almost reminds me of the time I took my 2002 T-Bird to NTB (where I just purchased a new set of tires a week earlier) to see what they would charge to change a rear bulb. They told me one-eighty! When I questioned why it would $180 to replace a bulb - he replied it was $1.80, and explained they used to do it for free for customers, but were told recently to at least charge for the bulb. He had it done 5 minutes later and I had 20 cents change from my $2.00

Not necessarily. It took me a couple hours and some elbow grease, but I modified the two housings to accept cheapo LED wedge bulbs. Had to use 3 pigtails total with an incandescent wedge bulb in one to make the LEDs light up. About 3 bucks worth of ebay bulbs and pigtails combined with a couple hours of my time with a hacksaw, Gerber multi-tool and some JB Weld and BOOM! . . . . LED license plate light repair.
