SC430 Navigation Looks So "Old" and Outdated... any known upgrades or "fixes"?
Hello all,
Just got a Lexus SC430. Love the car.
Needed navigation bad. Disk is orginal 2003 version... (yes, it was never updated.
QUESTION IS THIS....
When I upgrade the "disk", will it also upgrade the APPEARANCE displayed on the screen?
The maps look so old and outdated... the little arrow blipping around is like a 1980's video game.
Is there some sort of upgrade / update / enhancement that can make the screen look more like a modern navigation system?
Any help or input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Replace the radio head unit with a DVD touch screen with navigation.
There are threads on this (pricey - you need the interface harness/electronics sold separately by Beat Sonic plus the head unit). Gives you Bluetooth phone and radio, iPod integration, and sat radio capabilities too. A lot of work but sweet once you are done.

I have a 2002 SC430 with the original map CD. I just received the 2012 map CD from Sewell Lexus, $162 with our Club Lexus discount. The look is very similar to the original but the content is what I needed. Imagine 12 years of street changes in the DC metro area, wow. A few new features embedded in the points of interest that could come in handy later on.
Install was very simple, instructions are on the Sewell website, 1) turn on car 2) press a button to pop out the old cd 3) insert new cd 4) wait for cd to load, That simple!

The only OEM upgrade is going to the Gen 4 as mentioned above and then upgrading the the newest disc...this does not upgrade the appearence too much. There was a guy on here lexusaudio back in the day that used to make Nav Retros for the RX and stuff if he was still around id ask him to look into something for us but the wiring changed alot, the only thing I could think of is upgrading to the Gen6 2010 nav however that would cost more than going after market....I havent looked it up but the computer for that is probably a few thousand bucks not to mention everything else and ripping apart the car.
