Transmission flush/fill
Just curious how much people are paying.
I just had the transmission on my '02 power flushed and filled with synthetic (compatible with Toyota Type IV or better) for $125 by a respected transmission specialty shop in the area. (Shop with auto enthusiasts - they came out to talk to me about how cool this car is when I came to pick it up) This transmission has a metal screen rather than a filter to replace, which they cited for keeping costs down. Local toyota dealer quoted my $225 for the same job. Had I known how little I was getting charged I would have told them to drain and refill the rear end, too.

I have periodically done my drain and fill. I try to do it every 5K miles depending on the condition of the fluid I have done 4X since taking ownership 2.5 years ago. The fluid is looking good right now. Nice pinkish look and no burnt smell. I think it is 1.9 Quarts per.

That's one way to do it - a little at a time. As long as the fluid looks and smells good. But over 100K miles that is about 4X the fluid of a single power-flush and refill (38 qts vs 9+). As long as you get it done when the fluid condition has degraded, that's what counts.

In my case I put in 3K miles per year. I will probably do it 1x per year. I am due for a drain and fill and the fluid is still pink and fresh smelling. But for the heck of it, I will drain and fill before the year ends.
