Thanks, Jeff,
IMO the CD player produces a sound that is a bit "richer" than the Sirius. In my case, my rather extensive CD collection was "lost" when I loaned it to my older daughter....go figure,
On the other hand, the Sirius line up of stations is extensive...there's always something that fits with my mood, who's siting next to me, etc.
In addition, I enjoy the serendipity factor I get from Sirius. I always hear artists and songs I've never been exposed to before, not to mention the various genres of music, as well as comedy, news, sports, etc.
My approach is to keep the CD loaded with some of my very favorite albums so I can enjoy them too!
Have a great road trip!
Mike

73446,
Quick question: when you are in AUX mode, is your antenna up or down?
I ask this becuase I am considering installation on a 2002 SC430. According to the VAIS SL2u Operation Manual, you access the new AUX mode by depressing the "FM" button. Thus, "FM1" antenna up, "FM2" antenna up, "AUX" antenna does what?
Thanks!

In AUX, antenna will go down. Of course when you are switching from FM1 FM2, it will be up.

I am conflicted becuase 73446 sent me a PM response that is contrary to your response. Do you actually have the SL2u installed with the "Special Emulation" configuration?
Other SL2u configurations on other models allow AUX access through the CD button, thus I expect the antenna would be down. But, for a 2002 SC430, we have to access AUX through the FM button. Wasn't sure if the new AUX programming would actually disable the antenna?
73446 indicates his antenna stayed up in AUX mode.

I have installed Vaistech on both my SC and RX, plus a friend’s ES330. The SC uses special emulation, and it is under FM (FM1, FM, AUX comes up). The RX uses CD1, CD2.
However I have 2 versions installed of the SL, SLU. Do not remember which one’s which. The trick was to follow the directions (whichever model you have) and it should work.
Another tip it to subscribe to Vaistech Forum, all the tips are in there. Vaistech is also a vendor on CL and he has replied to my PM’s. Just describe the model number and your car model.
Good luck.
PS: If I get a chance I will pull out my manuals and check and post.

This weekend, while addressing an "ERROR 3", I installed my new VAIS SL2u. I had a Scosche FM Modulator before.
A couple of quick comments:
(1) In AUX mode, the antenna was DOWN. Since I have a 2002 SC430, my only configuration option for the SL2u is "Special Emulation".
(2) Sound is MUCH improved over the FM modulator. Sound level is comparable to the CD changer. Before, everything just sounded noisy! Now, everything sounds much more pleasant and clear.
The only slight negative...now I have to remember to manually pause my ipod when I turn the car off. The Scosche did that for me. In a few days, that will be habit, and all very well worth the improvement in sound quality (and, I like that my antenna is down!).
Thanks!

IMO there is no doubt that the typical CD produces better sound than satellite radio. Anyone know the relevant effective sampling rates, compression, etc? I'm converting my CD collection to load onto my IPOD for convenience (using the Pioneer AVH-4400 head unit), but I know that I'll be giving up a little on quality.
