2002 Sirrius XM installation
Hello,
I just purchased my first 430, a 2002, and I want to have Sirrius XM radio installed.
The shop that installed it in my 2005 ES 330 kind of scratched their head and said they needed to do some research on it and get back to me,
Has anyone had this done? Is it straightforward, or does it require some electronic gymnastics?
Also, I need to replace the base speakers. Any recommendations on replacements? I take it from reading other posts that it is common for these to fail, and I don't want to replace them with the same stock speakers.
Thanks!
Mike

You can do a VAIS SLU (which gives you 2 dry Aux inputs to the stereo), and then put the Sat Radio receiver somewhere. My first Sat Radio installation in my '03, I put the receiver in the ashtray. Made a very clean installation, but you had to open the ashtray door to change the station, or see what was playing.
But it got the job done.

Regarding your speaker question...read through this thread: Aftermarket speakers for a 2002 SC430 or do a search on speakers since there are a ton of threads about our door speakers. The bottom line when considering a replacement; device physical depth (there is a limited amount of space due to window design and path) and if you intend to keep the ML amplifier, proper ohm rating for the speakers, otherwise you will eventually damage the amp.

Latina 2001: Did you have the speaker system changed out also, or did you just change out the stereo system? What model was the Pioneer, and about how much did it cost?
Thanks,

Well I installed the grom unit with the Kuda mount and stream sat radio off my iphone which is piggy backed off my wife's prius xm radio subscription.
you would need the vais unit for the 2002.

The Solution I Selected!
I did a lot of poking around, talking to radio guys, and research here. Habious has the best solution with VAIS. I'll check in when I get it done. Thanks for all the input, folks!

Well not meaning to temp you... If you are only interested in adding satellite radio then Habious' solution is probably the best. However, if you are interested in upgrading the head unit to 2012 state-of-the-art, i.e. bluetooth phone, bluetooth audio streaming, iPOD/iPHONE connectivity etc etc...there is another potential solution (hint....see my signature line below)

Yeah...that was the temptation I had (and eventually succumbed to) with the CarPC.
Was looking at installing the VAIS interface and the NavTool and was like...
Well, for not too much money, I can install a single-disk DVD player.
Geez, for only a little more money, I can install a 6-disk DVD changer.
But, for only a little more than that, I can install a 6-disk DVD changer that plays mp3's.
And, for a bit more than that, I can install a CarPC and have it ALL!!
