Default Advice on dealing with dealer re: tpm

My TPM light started to go on intermittently so I checked it out with the dealer. They said one was shot (left rear) so I got it replaced. Three days later, the light came on while driving and was beeping by the time I got home. The left rear tire was very flat. So my question is: Could the dealer have improperly installed the valve so the tire was slowly leaking afterwards? They supposedly checked out the tire at the time. Also, is it OK to put a doughnut spare on the back temporarily or may it screw up the differential?

Thanks

I had a very similar problem when I bought my tourmaline wheels from my dealer. They screwed up the same wheel by improperly seating the rubber grommet seal. This caused a slow leak and by the time I drove home (about 26 miles) the light was on. The next day, I refilled the tire with air from my compressor at home, called the dealer and they said they'd fix it right away. Other than the hassle of driving back out there, it was no issue at all.

If you don't have a tire repair kit with a compressor, and you do have a temporary spare, it's okay to use it. If you're that concerned, Lexus has roadside assistance number, you can always have the car towed in. But I call the dealer first and talk with your service writer about their shoddy work.

agreed - if anything, their work should have some sort of warranty that comes along with it for such a short period of time.....

No problem putting on your spare....that's what it's for. Just make sure IT has air!

I would talk to the dealer and have them comp your repair to the tire, OR since they screwed it up, I'd speak to the manager and explain nothing was wrong with the tire in the first place but the TPMS was shot (mmmmmm interesting first blast of cold air this year and your TPMS is out???? I wonder if the tire was going flat in the first place????). Then I would politely tell them they need to pick up your car at your home and leave you with a loaner car for your severe inconvenience and get it fixed at their cost. They obviously screwed up the install on the valve OR misdiagnosed the problem in the first place. Ask to see the TPMS that was bad too!
