Just had my xm antenna put in my decklid housing brake light. It turned out. Great. Gonna try and add pictures but have never done it. Tim york at performance mobile install Pensacola Florida did it. His e mail is shootajs@aol.com . I should also note this would be for the advanced installer. Please forgive typing errors I'm on an ipad

I also went with installing my Sat Radio antenna on the rear decklid.

I think it looks good there. Very OEM-looking.

Super-PITA to run the wiring though!

Very interesting.

How is the reception? Do you have any issue with signal drop-out? If it's "inside" the light, how is it exposed to the satellite?

Mine is inside the car, on the back package shelf, behind the piece of glass which goes between the two rear headrests. Pretty invisible/inconspicuous install location.

Send me a PM if you can't host pictures and I'll put them on the forum for you.

*Bows*

Thank you, sir.

I've always felt the "slickest" part of my CarPC install was the video switching system (pressing the "Open" button after the Nav door has opened toggles between factory video input, and the CarPC video input). Way cooler than some $.99 Radio Shack toggle switch.

But, whenever I show off the setup, I usually get a "Oh, neat. So, anyway..."

When I hear that, I'm always thinking "Come on!!! Do you know how freakin' HARD it was to figure out how to do that!!!???"

Bringing things back on-topic...I'm really curious how the OP went about this installation. If it works well, then I'm assuming his Sat Radio antenna is simply invisible.

And that's just cool! I love the factory look!

The hardest part of installing the antenna on the trunk lid (visible or not), is the wire routing. Finding a path for the wire where it doesn't interfere with the dual-motion hinge system is not easy.

For me the #1 consideration is where can the antenna be put where it is least noticeable, yet provides excellent reception. If the OP has the antenna inside the brake light, he has us all beat.

My setup:

Katy,

I thought you had a 2010 model...and I thought the 2010's have Sat Radio as factory-standard.

you can see the pictures in the photo section under xm antenna. It was very tricky getting the wires run because the wire to the lights are on a spool so that when the trunk opens from the fron it will not pull the wires. The reception is awe some... but once again i would be careful with the installer. Another point my car is a 2007 which has LED's and im not sure what it would look like in a bulb situation

Habious, Could you please post some pictures of how you routed the wires... I'm looking at the trunk hinges and I can't figure out how you did it...
