Bgw, are you saying that an alarm goes off if you drive off with the rear windows up and the top down?

Yes, if the quarter windows are up, the red light on the TOP OPEN/CLOSE switch is illuminated and once you begin to drive the car has a constant beeping.

BTW, the valet switch is located on the in the left side of the glove box frame...I would snap a pic but I am not home.

....lol....this is why I asked Retro last week, if he knew of a procedure to turn the warning buzzer off. I've been familiar with this quarter window "trick", for a couple of years, but the warning buzzer is/can be annoying.

Who is Darthsid and what did he do to help you?
Are there directions somewhere?
Thanks!

Darthsid is a member who had traded in his sc for a Porsche 911 last year great guy and very skilled and helpful! he had reached out to me himself when he saw my thread regarding the window mod and gave me courage to attempt and helped me with any info/details I needed to start and along way.

I passed the info, including close up photos of my relay to another member who did it successfully.

here are links to threads where it started..

BGw70,
After raising these 1/4 windows with this procedure,... do the 1/4 windows automatically go back down when you try to close the top, or do you have to lower them again manually first?

Just to be clear, the procedure I used is located in the owners manual.

I just turned the valet button off in the glovebox and closed the roof like normal and the quarter Windows went back down before the roof did anything.

the mechanical hardtop is horrifically complex. I always wondered what these would do as they aged. ive never seen one fail so far and ive been in atleast 50 sc430s in the last few years.

however, I have seen them struggle, and the only reason the do is because the owners never used the feature. if you don't use it youll loose it. as long as you open it, it should work forever. just use it every few days or so to keep the juices flowing

Bimmer,
When you have the top down, and then raise the 1/4 Windows manually, will the System automatically lower these 1/4 windows when you activate the stock "roof-close" button on the AC Controller? or do you have to manually lower these windows before you close the roof?

Thanks,

Stereorob, that's an interesting approach. I've personally been of the opposite opinion (which may be wrong...), that the less you make the top "work", the lower the chances it'll fail.

My logic could be flawed though, since I don't know much about cars (beyond driving them LOL).

In my case, I often decide not to lower the top of short trips because I want to avoid the constant "wear and tear" on the top mechanism.... but again that logic may be flawed entirely...

Maybe it truly is, "use it or loose it".

Any thought are welcome.

Yes it lowers them, as well as the other way around.

and when I have quarter windows down but top up and I decide to bring the top down.. the car detects that quarter windows are already lowered so it continues.
