Default Royal Purple engine oil

In Australia the Royal Purple brand of oil just recently became main stream, ie we can now buy it from the local auto parts shop - in my area anyway.

Maybe its me but I notice the engine much more quieter when idling compared to Mobil 1. Its about $30.00 AUD more expensive compared to Mobil 1, but $30.00 is not much over 5000km per oil change.

Also did a transmission flush and boy the old fluid stank. Yuk!! This was suppose to be done by Lexus about 18 months ago but I doubt it. The stamps said its been service thou.

I also flush the transmission with a total of 16 litres of Toyota Type IV tranny fluid. Now shes shifts even smoother!!

Just curious, are you also able to get the Royal Purple synthetic transmission fluid there?

Their tranny fluid it Type-IV compatible.

RP isn't popular on BITOG. There is some controversy over the Synerlec technology they use. I use AMSoil myself although you can get Shell Rotella T here in Sydney if you know where to look. I would rate the Rotella higher than either RP or M1.

Try Castrol Transmax E ATF fluid as well.

Not yet but I will give the distributor a call to see if they do bring them into the country.

3 litres is only from the bottom of the pan. A 3 litre drain and re-fill is not a full flush. Not sure on the exact numbers but there is 8 litres of trans fluid still in the the torque converter.

Your UZZ30 would have about 12 litres of transmission fluid and 3/4 of that is in the torque converter.

The tests they completed in the article are simplistic and don't test other items such as TBN over sustained period (the ability of the oil to hold the byproducts of combustion in suspension), HTHS levels (i.e. how long the oil will remain in grade), viscosity at various temps etc.

The only way to really be sure is to have an Oil Analysis done (which I do every oil change).

I use AMSOIL Series 3000 Heavy Duty Engine Oil only (5W30) in my vehicles with great results however AMSoil is incredibly expensive and can also be controversial like RP. Shell Rotella T and Mobil Delvac 1 or Mobil 1 TDT are all great oils as alternatives to RP if you want to try something else that's all.

i to only use AMSOL, but you get what you pay. the best years ago and still now. AMSOL was the first synthetic oil made, all others are copies.

I like it as well but there are other great oils as well such as Rotella T, Mobil Delvac 1 etc.

Dont want to turn this into an "oil fight"!

The OP did the correct thing in changing his fluids which was the point of his original post.

Got that right, BITOG has all the fights, let's not go there.
