Hypermiling Challenge
Had to make a run from Miami to Jacksonville. I started out at 4am and drove 300 miles hitting the brakes only twice. AC on lowest level, cruise set at 60, average MPG 27.6 Anyone beat this?

I can come very close to that!
I can come very close. In my 1994 SC400 I got 27.2 MPG on my last tank of gas, with 100% city driving.

I've been averaging 20.2 around town. I'm good with that! When I first got the car the average on the display said 15.3 for the first couple of months. Me being the really smart guy that I am got a little depressed, until one day, on the short bus to the airport, a guy suggested I reset it.
Duh.

LS 400 mpg and LS 430
I shifted to neutral coasting down to 60 then motoring up to 65, no a/c, and with my LS400 from Dallas to Fort Worth filling up at each end I pulled 32.5 mpg on I-20. With my LS 430 I thought with VVT I would really improve but only saw 26 mpg. I don't think the 430 has as good aerodynamics as the 400, it appears taller.
Same type driving going to work (mostly on highway) i am seeing 26 mpg per tank on the 400 and 21 on the 430. Driving normally 18-19 mpg.
The 400 will coast for miles with little slow down.

I do a mix of city and highway driving and get about 10 litres per 100km all the time which is about 23.5 miles per gallon.
If I do alot of highway driving at our 100km/h speed limit I get about 8.5 litres per 100 km which is about the same as 27.6 miles per gallon.
Don't know if its a placebo effect but I notice my decrease of fuel consumption when I started running 0w-30 signature series Amsoil oil.
I do run 38 psi all round with the standard tyres so this might help with the fuel consumption.

Makes no sense to me. The transmission has nothing to do with changing direction when under way, and it might take a millisecond to pop it into drive if you need to accelerate. Are you talking about turning off the ignition while driving?

The problem is during emergency it is not that easy to pop into D. In panic you probably pop in other gears that you don't intend. LOL. Without engine power you can change direction but the momentum drops immediately. Learn some physics.
Also, even you pop in D it will take a little while to engage. Hope you know human reaction time is at least 0.2 sec and the mechanics take more time to engage.
