I paid $24K for it and it was confirmed to be a one owner 37K vehicle. It was owned by a Chicago area doctor and was her daily driver. Her commute was short, but slow. The local Lexus dealer has assured me the throttle response and performance is perfectly normal. They have gone over everything several times and found nothing. I still find it hard to believe, since a 2004 Subaru will leave it in the dust.
This car's performance is not good, but my high-mileage example has no throttle response problem. It also adapts: It stays aggressive for ten, twenty minutes in traffic after long trips on the freeway, and vice versa. Although I do feel the limit is too low in most places even for this car's performance. I really wish to be driving a Ferrari F12 as daily, but I would like it better if it's a 3 litre v12 instead of a 6.3 (e.g. Ferrari 250), but I digress.

My 08's throttle progression and torque converter lock up both are different with the ETC on its power position.
are the other years that way?
bought a blitz throttle control and hardly see the need to install it.
is mine different?

Sc430 235000 miles
Runs great. Oil pressure light off and on. At 185000 miles the transmission felt like it was going out the car would only go in reverse and not forward after several researches and several "on a new transmission found If you change the battery it can resolve the issue so I thought what the heck I'll try it sure enough change the battery to a new one no more transmission feeling problems current great nothing was ever wrong with the transmission still a 230000 miles driving daily without problems

Very cool Bette. Welcome to the forum and congratulations on resolving your "transmission" problems.

It has been over a year since I last posted. I have now put over 25k more miles (63k now) on my 430. I have replaced all of the struts and added Bridgestone run-flat tires, as well as doing some other minor repairs. It has never had any real problems and I have gotten used to the throttle response and generally heavy handling. The Brodgestones ride much better, too. Apparently it was involved in an accident that didn't show up on Carfax until after I purchased it, but it wasn't anything major. I found that out because I had to replace the nose due to my own mistake. I turned into a bench in my garage and pushed the nose piece in on the side where the nose piece meets the body. No harm done, except the clips that attach the nose piece to the body were broken and the only way to fix it was replace the entire nose... $1200 repair for 3 broken plastic clips!
Anyway, my 430 now feels like an old friend. Very comfortable cruising at any highway speeds and the better tires let me throw it around with much more confidence. The size is great for urban traffic battles. What I am most surprised about is it still attracts a lot of attention around here and has a lot of "presence". There are very few 430s around here, or any other cars you would call "cool", which may factor into it. But, I have come to the conclusion it is time to sell and I will be sorry to see her go. It's funny, because a year ago I would have been glad to get rid of it!

Anyone know whats wrong with it I think it may be the alternator but am not sure!!

Is there anyone out there with an 02 SC that lives in an area that has cold winters (i.e. the northeast). I am looking at a few and am just wondering how they hold up after 100k miles spending half their life in the cold. Thanks in advance for any help.

Don’t think it’s alternator. Post your problem in separate thread, others could help.

I have 165k and starter just recently went out but other than that no trouble codes. From the consumer reports reliability rankings 2002 was the best year.

That is a interesting fact reff the best year. I have a 2005 and it also got high consumer ratings. There have not been many changes in the sc430 from 2002 going through to 2010 . Many were cosmetic tweaks some accessories and some minor improvements in ride and suspension. Then one year the car got bashed by a so called report that was a real smash mouth negative thing comparted the sc430 to a jelly bean. Its been the best car I have ever owned
