The stock pads from Sewell work fine. No noise and they have lasted a long time. Over 40,000 miles at this point.

I have used few different pads for my SC430 and I really like EBC Red Stuff.

I have tried stock which has good stopping power but too much brake dust and the pads wear out fast. Than I tried Akebono Pro Ceremic and it produced very low dust and it lasted long time but stopping power was really bad. The last pad I tried before I sold my SC430 was EBC Red Stuff. Over all, it was great pad. It produced low dust, good stopping power and lasts long time. The only thing about this pad is that it can be noisey during breaking in period and must be installed correctly. When I installed EBC Redstuff and for the first few hundred miles, it was little noisey but after the break in period it was great. Combination on good stoping power, low brake dust, lasts long, and low/no noise after initial breaking period. Make sure to put enough brake grease and use the shim that comes with the pads and the ones that came with the car.

Then you got different stock than I did. I have no brake dust at all and as I said they have about 40,000 miles on them and are still good. I don't know what the dealer sold you but the stock pads do not have dust at all.

Is your stock pads Ceremic base pads? Unless Lexus changed something, I know the old OEM pads for SC430 use to be semi-metallic based pads (I think???). I know it wasnt Ceremic for sure. OEM and non OEM aside, Ceremic pads give out least amount of dust and semi metallic gives out lots of dust and wears out fast. EBC Red Stuff is combination of Ceremic and Kevlar.

I used Hawk HPS brake pads before on my 350z. Many Z owner complained about Hawk HPS Pads ability to bite especially in the morning or when cold. There was a whole thread about it.

I tried many pads before on my 350z and my favorite was Endless brake pads than Project Mu. I am not sure if they make one for SC430.

As far as SC430 is concern, I would go with EBC Red Stuff unless Lexus changed the OEM pads to someting else which I have not tried. I would order EBC Red Stuff Pads online, call your local shop and see how much the labor is for brake pad installation. As for painting the calliper, I never had it done on any of my cars.

Hawk HPS Blue Box must be something new. I never tried those pads before. What's the composition of the pads?
