several years ago i looked into what you are attempting. I contacted a club member, i think his handle is LexAudio. He stated the 06 display screen will work on my 02. However in order to get the bluetooth feature to work the 02 must have the harness for the hands free feature. He also mentioned the steering wheel requires the module to operate the hang and pickup feature for the phone. Another item he mentioned is that the 06 display bluetooth feature is built into the back of the display screen. The only reason I never moved forward with the mod is because the screen that was purchased for me was damaged. I didn't hear from him again and lately, i invested in an after market double din head unit equipped with bluetooth. As for the gen 4 device, I also upgraded my my original gen 2 device. I immediately noticed the display changed slightly for the better. I was also fortunate the gen 4 nav device was equipped with the latest OEM nav disc.

Worked great on my 2002 SC430
Hello,
Long time reader, first time poster. I just replaced the dead OEM gen 2 nav ecu with a gen 4 that I bought on ebay for $180. (It had been taken out of a junked Prius.) I wanted to say thanks to the original poster for posting such excellent detailed pics. I also wanted to add my voice to the others who had noted for future readers that THIS DOES WORK.
Cheers,
Al

I picked up a Gen4 unit from an '05 SC430 that is in a junkyard. It still had the W41 DVD, (original). I just placed an order for a new U29 DVD.
Many people have asked about the differences, I do not have screen shots but IMO, it is worth it!

...I'll keep that in mind, I know I can find one,if I really look. I'm really undecided if i want to take out the factory stereo & add a radio with nav or keep the stock look & add to my stereo system. I also use my phone sometimes because it's so much easier to put in a destination, then to pull over & type it in

So I'm sure I'm going to catch a lot of flack for this but I scored this today from a 2005 SC430 at a scrap yard. Even though most will say it's an obsolete upgrade with today's phones and Waze, etc. But I had the urge and took the dive. Part number is 86841-50090/492100-0604. Was asking $200 without warranty. I talked him down to $175 without warranty. On the phone they said I could start the car and check that's its functional. Went to the yard today, 30 min drive. Unfortunately the last guys that pulled the seats had lost the key so I couldn't check functionality. Pretty frustrated. Anyway I was already there, so I helped the son of the owner pull it myself. It looks in good shape, no burns, rust, or apparent water damage. No idea what disc is in it, if any. Also as you can see, got the NAV voice amplifier that sits on the top of the player. Scrap yard owner said since I couldn't test it and made the drive that he would warranty if I had a problem, and gave it all to me for $170 (said "family discount" :-)
Now come my questions (to which I feel I have the answers but just want confirmation.)
-Upgrading this unit will:
1. require a new GEN 4 DVD (if not already inside)?
2. will NOT allow bluetooth phone connection (since I do not have the Gen 4 Screen with the Bluetooth hardware) or steering wheel control? Anyone think this option can be added? If so what parts would be needed? I assume at minimum the OEM microphone. (Side note: I bought the GROM system that has handsfree/music play from all the OEM controls (Steering/radio face) but haven't installed it yet. Would be great if this unit would give me the onscreen dialer though).
-Followup question: Should I change the NAV Voice amplifier or stick with my OEM 2002?

Thanks all.
